The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has announced plans to embark on a statewide inspection of ongoing and completed projects across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs)Â beginning Monday, June 22, 2026.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde, disclosed this while addressing members ahead of the commencement of the oversight exercise, describing the initiative as part of the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to ensure accountability, transparency and efficient service delivery at the grassroots level.
According to Babatunde, the inspection tour will enable lawmakers to evaluate the execution of projects undertaken by local councils, assess their impact on residents, and verify that public funds allocated for development are being properly utilized.
He stressed the critical role of local governments as the closest tier of government to the people, noting that they are responsible for delivering essential infrastructure and services to communities. He added that it is necessary to ensure that projects are executed according to approved standards and in the best interest of residents.
The committee chairman clarified that the exercise is not intended to target or intimidate any council administration but is aimed at promoting good governance, strengthening institutional accountability and encouraging prudent management of public resources.
Babatunde further reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting policies and programmes that drive grassroots development, enhance local governance and improve living standards across Lagos State.
As part of the exercise, the committee will inspect a wide range of projects, including road construction and rehabilitation works, drainage systems, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, markets, community development initiatives and other key interventions implemented by local councils.
The inspection is expected to cover all 57 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos State, providing lawmakers with a firsthand assessment of developmental projects across the state.
