Kylian Mbappé becomes the youngest player to reach 100 Champions League appearances at 27, scoring as Real Madrid beat Roma 4-3
Kylian Mbappé Breaks Lionel Messi’s Record as Youngest Player to Make 100 Champions League Appearances
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has made Champions League history, becoming the youngest player to reach 100 appearances in the competition at the age of 27 years and 298 days.
The French international achieved the milestone on Wednesday night as Real Madrid came from behind to defeat AS Roma 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Mbappé marked his landmark appearance by scoring Madrid’s equaliser in the first half, helping the Spanish giants recover from an early setback against the Italian hosts.
The achievement saw the forward surpass Lionel Messi’s previous record. The Argentine reached 100 Champions League appearances at the age of 28 while playing for Barcelona against Roma in September 2015.
Mbappé’s century also placed him among an exclusive group of players to have made at least 100 appearances in Europe’s premier club competition. He reached the milestone after representing Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old has continued to build his reputation as one of the competition’s leading scorers. His goal against Roma took his Champions League tally to 72, moving him ahead of former Real Madrid striker Raúl González into fifth place on the competition’s all-time scoring list.
Real Madrid’s victory was equally dramatic, with the visitors overturning a 3-1 deficit in the closing stages. Carlos Espí, Endrick and Antonio Rüdiger scored late goals to complete the comeback and secure a 4-3 win.
Mbappé’s latest achievement adds another record to his growing European football career, underlining his impact on the Champions League as Real Madrid continue their campaign.
