Casemiro Set for Manchester United Exit, Inter Miami Leads Race Amid Saudi, Europe Interest

0

Casemiro is edging closer to a summer exit from Manchester United, with Inter Miami CF emerging as a strong contender for his signature.

The Brazilian midfielder is expected to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season, having already signalled his intention to seek a fresh challenge in the upcoming transfer window.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Inter Miami have initiated contact with the player’s representatives and submitted an initial proposal as part of an ambitious recruitment plan.

Casemiro, who previously enjoyed a highly successful spell at Real Madrid CF, is said to be open to the move, attracted by both the sporting project and lifestyle opportunities in the United States.

However, negotiations remain at an early stage, with financial terms expected to play a decisive role in determining the outcome.

Sources indicate that the midfielder is also weighing offers from clubs in Europe and the Saudi Pro League, potentially setting up a competitive race for his signature.

As discussions continue, Casemiro’s next destination is likely to be one of the major talking points of the summer transfer window.

Oyo 2027: Power Play Intensifies as Technocrats, Populists, and Party Factions Battle for Governorship Ticket

0

The race for the Oyo State governorship in 2027 is gathering momentum, with a mix of technocrats, grassroots mobilisers, and seasoned politicians positioning themselves across major political parties amid shifting alliances and internal crises.

At the centre of early discussions is Mogbonjubola, a technocrat whose political profile remains largely undefined despite his growing influence within government. Having served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde in 2019 and later as Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, he currently oversees the Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructure, and Transport.

With over 368 kilometres of roads reportedly completed under his watch and key projects like the Ibadan Circular Road underway, Mogbonjubola’s strength lies in administrative competence and insider knowledge. However, his low political visibility and lack of a structured support base may hinder his chances if he decides to formally enter the race.

In contrast, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, popularly known as Ajadi, has quickly emerged as a vibrant contender within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His grassroots-driven approach, marked by philanthropy and empowerment initiatives, has earned him significant public attention.

Ajadi’s growing popularity and financial strength position him as a formidable aspirant. Yet, questions remain about his integration into the PDP’s internal power structure, with party loyalists watching closely to assess his long-term commitment.

Also in the PDP race is Hazeem Gbolarumi, a former Deputy Governor and a loyalist of the Federal Capital Territory Minister’s faction. With decades of political experience and deep grassroots connections, Gbolarumi presents himself as a resilient contender.

However, his opposition to Governor Makinde’s preferred succession plan may complicate his path, especially amid allegations of factional clashes within the party. His residence was recently attacked during a tense congress, highlighting the deepening divisions.

Beyond the PDP, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is gaining traction as a viable alternative platform. Among its notable aspirants is Bolanle Aminat Sarumi (BASA), a former aide to Governor Makinde, who defected from the PDP citing internal crises. As the only female aspirant so far, she brings both experience and a strong grassroots network.

Oloye Adegboyega Adegoke, another prominent figure, has also pitched his tent with the ADC after resigning from the PDP. A philanthropist with a broad support base, Adegoke’s move reflects growing discontent within the PDP and signals a potential realignment ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, the Accord Party is re-emerging as a dark horse in the race, with media personality Oriyomi Hamzat leading its charge. Founder of Agidigbo FM, Hamzat has leveraged his media influence and grassroots appeal to build a loyal following through his “Oyo Npe O” movement.

His campaign, centred on youth empowerment, transparency, and responsive governance, has resonated with many voters, positioning him as a disruptive force capable of challenging traditional political structures.

Political observers note that the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP could significantly shape the outcome of the election.

The factional divide, particularly between loyalists of Governor Makinde and other power blocs, has already led to tensions and violence, raising concerns about party cohesion.

Recent developments, including a surge in campaign billboards by aspirants such as Stanley Olajide, Nureni Adeniran, and Bimbo Adekanmbi, signal an intensifying contest following the governor’s call for open declarations.

With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable in place, the coming months are expected to witness strategic alliances, defections, and intensified grassroots mobilisation.

As the political landscape evolves, the Oyo 2027 governorship race is shaping up to be a complex battle defined by ambition, party dynamics, and the quest for dominance in one of Nigeria’s key states.

The minister stated that Nigeria’s progress depends largely on citizens who are willing to deploy their expertise while upholding strong moral values.

Musa made this known at the graduation ceremony of the Air Force Institute of Technology in Kaduna on Saturday.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, the minister commended the academic achievements of the 3,003 graduating students, urging them to embrace patriotism, innovation, and excellence as they step into the next phase of their lives.

Highlighting the role of AFIT, the minister described the institution as a centre of excellence in technological education and professional training, noting its continued contribution to producing highly skilled manpower in science, technology, and innovation.

He further urged the graduates to convert their academic knowledge into practical solutions that will drive national development, stressing that true patriotism is reflected through discipline, excellence, and selfless service.

In his remarks, the Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, who also serves as Chairman of the AFIT Governing Council, conferred degrees, diplomas, and certificates on the graduating students.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Cairo after a brief illness.

The news of her passing was first announced by her grandson in a Facebook post, expressing gratitude for her life and calling for prayers for her soul.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late matriarch as a woman of remarkable character who raised children and grandchildren that have contributed meaningfully to the nation.

“Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother. As someone who has also lost a mother, I share in your grief and understand the depth of your loss,” the President said.

Tinubu noted that the loss of a mother carries a unique emotional weight, praying that the memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance would bring comfort to the bereaved family. He also expressed faith in the Islamic belief of returning to the Creator, stating that she had fulfilled her purpose on earth.

“Losing a mother is a pain unlike any other. I pray that Almighty Allah grants her Aljannah Firdaus and gives the family strength to bear the loss,” he added.

Also mourning the deceased, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, described Hajiya Umma as a caring and motherly figure with whom he shared fond memories.

In a condolence message shared on Facebook, Ribadu extended sympathies to the El-Rufai family, praying for her eternal rest and for strength for those she left behind.

“I have fond memories of shared moments with her and her motherly care. At a time like this, words can offer little comfort for such a profound loss,” he said.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai is remembered as the matriarch of the El-Rufai family, whose life and values left a lasting impact on her children and community.

Oluwo of Iwo Bars Lawmaker Lukman Mudashiru from Palace Over Alleged Neglect of Traditional Institutions

0

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has officially barred House of Representatives member Lukman Mudashiru from entering his palace, citing the lawmaker’s neglect of traditional institutions in Iwoland.

Mudashiru, who represents the Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency under the Accord Party, was accused by the monarch of failing to maintain proper engagement with the palace and other heritage structures of the community.

The announcement, shared on Oba Akanbi’s official Facebook page on Friday, followed the monarch’s public endorsement of another indigene, Ayodeji Bello, who is seeking the Accord ticket for the same federal constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The position of the Oluwo demands respect and accountability from elected representatives within the district. Oluwo is an entity. He is the traditional head of the town,” Oba Akanbi said.
“By virtue of these pedigrees, Oluwo deserves the highest traditional honour. If you are a politician representing any or all areas in the district, you owe Oluwo a stewardship explanation.”

The statement emphasized that elected officials are expected to provide updates on their activities to the traditional leadership:
“Either directly or indirectly, you are representing the interests of this district.

Traditionally, he heads the district, and stewardship accountability is owed to him from all elective and appointed political holders.”

Sources noted that the monarch had previously criticised Mudashiru for allegedly sidelining traditional authorities in Iwoland. The latest statement reinforced that the lawmaker would no longer have access to the palace.

When reached for comment, Mudashiru described the dispute as a personal matter, saying:

“It is an issue between a father and his son. It will be resolved because it is a family affair.”

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei, the Governor highlighted that the tournament, already in its second day, has drawn fans with displays of exceptional skill and athleticism. He reiterated the state’s commitment to sports, noting the ongoing construction of a 25,000-capacity stadium scheduled for completion next year ahead of the 2028 National Sports Festival.

In his welcome address, Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) President Bashir Adewale Adeniyi commended Governor Diri’s “unwavering sponsorship” and noted that Yenagoa’s back-to-back hosting of major sporting events, including the recent Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Congress, underscores the city’s growing prominence in national sports.

Adeniyi outlined a “grassroots-first” strategy, pointing to wrestling’s recent inclusion in the Nigeria University Games (NUGA) and regional training initiatives in the Republic of Benin as evidence of the sport’s expansion. He also announced enhanced prize money, logistics subsidies, and new event features, including Beach Wrestling and a dedicated Games Village providing meals and accommodation for teams.

The NWF chief concluded with a reminder on discipline, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct among athletes and officials. Wale Ojo and Shaffy Bello Lead International Premiere of African Film Lights Out

British-Nigerian actor Wale Ojo and Nollywood star Shaffy Bello are set to headline the international premiere tour of the thought-provoking African film, Lights Out, alongside Cameroonian actress Syndy Emade and other industry stakeholders.

Directed by Enah Johnscott and produced by Carista Asonganyi and Buh Melvin, the film delves into the emotional and psychological realities of memory loss and cognitive decline within African families.

The international rollout, coordinated by diaspora-based Check Sense Productions, kicks off on April 18 at Majestic Cinemas Bessenge in Douala, Cameroon, followed by a Pan-African premiere in Abidjan on May 1, and a U.S. premiere on May 2 at Phoenix Theatres Lennox Town Center 24 in Ohio.

Johnscott explained the film’s immersive approach:

“Through Lucas’s perspective, viewers experience a mind struggling to hold onto reality, inviting empathy before judgment. What seems like a conspiracy gradually reveals confusion — reflecting the emotional truth of cognitive decline.”

Producer Asonganyi said the film draws from real-life experiences of families managing dementia with limited resources, while co-producer Melvin highlighted its goal to foster awareness and dialogue:

“Lights Out is intended to spark conversations that move beyond fear and toward awareness and care,” he said.

Lights Out has already screened at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival and the ORION International Film Festival, where it was a finalist for Best Feature Narrative. It also featured at the Abuja International Film Festival, earning multiple nominations, including Best Cinematography.

Bodo-Bonny Committee Backs Tinubu for 2027, Hails Progress on Landmark Road Project

0

The Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridges Peace Committee has endorsed Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing his administration’s role in accelerating the long-delayed Bodo-Bonny Road project and approving its second phase.

The endorsement came during a Medallion Award ceremony held in Abuja on Friday, where the committee praised the President’s intervention in reviving and expanding the critical infrastructure project.

The event, organised to celebrate progress on the Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridges project, honoured the President and his Works Ministers for what the committee described as patriotism, fairness, and courage in taking tough decisions.

The project, which has been in the works for nearly four decades, is considered vital for improving connectivity and boosting economic activities in Rivers State’s coastal communities.

According to the committee, Tinubu’s approval of cost adjustments and the expansion of the project demonstrates a strong commitment to infrastructure development, regardless of political or regional considerations.

They noted that the administration’s willingness to prioritise the road project reflects a broader vision for national development and coastal integration.

The group said its call for Tinubu’s re-election is rooted in the belief that continuity will ensure the completion of the project and sustain ongoing infrastructure reforms.

It added that the President’s leadership has renewed confidence among stakeholders and local communities long affected by the delay of the Bodo-Bonny Road.

The Medallion Award ceremony brought together key stakeholders involved in the project, highlighting the significance of the road as a transformative initiative for the region and the country at large.
