Ogun 2019: I spent all the money I had to make Amosun governor – Osoba

A former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba has said he spent all the money he had on the governorship bid of Ibikunle Amosun in 2011.

The incumbent governor of the state, Amosun was elected on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for his first term in office.

For his second term, he contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osoba, an APC chieftain, revealed that Amosun made him “look stupid” when he presented him a paper containing four commissioner nominees, following his election as governor.

He made the remark on Friday when Dapo Abiodun, Ogun APC governorship candidate, met with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.

“I don’t want to denigrate the office of governor because Amosun is still in saddle,” ThisDay quoted him as saying.

“I am proud to say that, when Amosun contested in 2011 on AC platform, I spent all the money that I had on me to make him governor.

“He requested for four commissioner nominees from me and I took the list to him in his office. Thank God, Leke Adewolu was on seat that very day.

“The only regret I had was that I gave him the list containing the four names and he tore it in my presence. He now asked me to write a fresh one and bring it to him. And I looked stupid. That was my only regret.”

Amosun is presently throwing all he has to back his preferred successor, Adekunle Akinlade, governorship candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The outgoing governor remains at loggerheads with Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman and some other national leaders of the party, over Akinlade’s failure to secure the governorship ticket of the ruling party.
