PDP’s Obaseki trashes APC’s Ize-Iyamu in Edo epic governorship election

Governor of Edo State and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state’s governorship election, Godwin Obaseki has been declared winner of the gubernatorial contest in the state.

Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC), Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, declared Obaseki winner after announcing the result of the election on Sunday.

Obaseki of PDP polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 223,619 votes – It was over 80,000 votes apart.

Rim-Rukeh, while declaring Obaseki winner, said the incumbent governor was returned elected after satisfying all requirements in line with the law.

Obaseki of PDP ran against APC candidate Ize-Iyamu and 13 others.

The sitting governor was elected on APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.
