Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Rivers State gubernatorial poll defeated Rotimi Amaechi’s candidate, Biokpomabo Awaraof the African Alliance Congress (AAC) with a very wide margin.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday declared Wike, as winner of the governorship election in the state.
Teddy Adias, returning officer for the election, made the declaration at the head office of INEC in the state.
He announced that Wike polled 886,264 votes ahead of Awara, the candidate of the AAC, who garnered 173,859 votes.
Adias said the total number of registered voters was 3,048,741, accredited voters 1,130,445, valid votes cast 1,102,823, total votes cast=1,123,840 and voided votes, 249,324.
Chukwunenye Kocha, the AAC party agent said that the party would study the results before taking any decision.
Kocha, however, said that the party stood for peace.
He urged the people of Rivers and other political parties to maintain peace.
The state former governor and incumbent minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had openly declared support for Awara since the All Progressives Congress (APC) was ineligible to field candidates in the elections.
