Residents of Otta, the economic nerve centre of Ogun State, have expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the ongoing reconstruction of the strategic Ota-Idiroko International Road, describing the intervention as a timely response to a long-standing infrastructural challenge.

In separate interviews, community members and road users noted that the road project, when completed, will significantly enhance mobility, boost cross-border trade, and reinforce Otta’s status as a major commercial hub in Ogun State. They acknowledged that although the project is still ongoing, visible progress has rekindled hope among residents and business owners alike.

While commending the Federal Government for the initiative, residents also appealed to motorists to exercise patience and adhere strictly to safety measures while navigating the construction zones. They emphasised the need for caution to prevent spoilage and ensure the safety of both road users and construction workers.

Speaking on the progress of the project, the site supervisor, Engineer. Taiwo Olagoke assured the public of the contractor’s commitment to excellence. According to him, “the road will not only be delivered within the stipulated timeframe, but the quality of the work is also guaranteed to meet required standards.”

Concerned residents, however, warned against any attempt to politicise the project, stressing that its success should transcend political interests. They called for sustained support and cooperation from all stakeholders and residents in and around the axis, noting that this is a critical phase that demands unity to ensure timely and quality delivery.

They maintained that they look forward to its completion within the stipulated period and quality job delivery that will stand the test of time, considering the significance of the ever-busy corridor.

Wike Urges PDP Leadership to Reclaim Defectors, Strengthen Opposition Ahead of Future Elections

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party to step up efforts aimed at reconciling with aggrieved and defected members.

Wike made the appeal on Friday during a visit to the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, where he emphasized the need for strategic outreach to bring estranged members back into the party.

He urged the leadership to deploy engagement teams to reconnect with those who have left, noting that many remain politically uncertain and may still be willing to return if properly reassured about their place within the party structure.

According to him, the PDP still holds strong potential as a national political platform capable of attracting widespread support ahead of future elections, but must remain proactive in rebuilding internal unity.

Wike also expressed confidence in the party’s recovery from its recent internal crisis, stressing the importance of sacrifice, coordination, and sustained mobilisation to strengthen its opposition role.

“Yes, we had a crisis, and we have almost come out of the crisis; it is not going to be easy. It requires a lot of hard work… Continue to bring out programmes that will continue to make the party popular,” he said.

He further argued that the PDP remains Nigeria’s principal opposition party based on its electoral history, while criticising rival political groups for what he described as inconsistent claims about their opposition status.

In response, the National Chairman of the PDP, Abdulrahman Mohammed, assured Wike that the new leadership is committed to repositioning the party and strengthening its structures across the country.

Mohammed said the NWC would prioritise inclusiveness, support aspirants, and work toward securing victory in the 2027 general elections, while also addressing internal challenges at the party secretariat.

He added that the current leadership is focused on restoring order and correcting past administrative lapses to ensure greater efficiency within the party’s operations.

American singer David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, has been arrested by Los Angeles police in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, authorities have confirmed.

Police said the 21-year-old artist is currently being held without bail while the investigation continues. The case is expected to be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for further review and potential charges.

The arrest follows a lengthy investigation that began after the teenager’s remains were discovered on September 8, 2025. According to investigators, the remains were found inside a vehicle linked to Burke after it was towed to a Hollywood impound yard following reports of a strong, unusual odor.

Authorities stated the car was registered to a Texas address associated with the singer and contained human remains that had reportedly been inside the vehicle for an extended period.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office noted that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting the victim may have died weeks before being discovered. The official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Celeste Rivas Hernandez had been reported missing in April 2024 and was last known to live approximately 75 miles from where her remains were found. Investigators also revealed she had a tattoo reading “Shhh…” on her finger.

A grand jury in Los Angeles began hearing evidence in December, and Burke was later identified as a target of the ongoing investigation. Court filings suggest he could face a murder charge as the case develops.

Following the discovery of the remains, D4vd cancelled his world tour and withdrew from public appearances. He also lost several brand partnerships. His representatives previously stated that he was cooperating with authorities as the investigation unfolded.

Court Grants BLord ₦20 Million Bail in Alleged Impersonation Case, Restricts Public Comments

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted social media entrepreneur Linus Williams Ifejirika, popularly known as BLord, bail set at ₦20 million in an ongoing impersonation case.

Delivering the ruling on Friday, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia held that the defendant must provide two sureties in like sum, noting that the sureties must be individuals of reputable standing in society.

The court further ordered BLord to deposit his international passport with the court registrar and cautioned him against making public statements relating to the case while proceedings are ongoing.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia emphasised that bail remains a discretionary power of the court, after which she adjourned the matter until April 27 for hearing.

BLord had been in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre since April 1 following his arraignment by the Nigeria Police on a six-count charge bordering on alleged impersonation of social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

His legal team had relied on constitutional provisions and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 in filing for bail, supported by a 10-paragraph affidavit urging the court to exercise discretion in his favour.

During proceedings, counsel to VDM withdrew a previously filed counter-affidavit opposing the bail application, effectively raising no further objection.

The dispute stems from allegations that BLord used VDM’s image and brand identity without consent to promote business ventures, leading to the current legal proceedings.

He emphasized that Airtel Nigeria remains committed to maintaining high standards of compliance, transparency, and consumer protection, while continuing to innovate within Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called for a new generation of technology-driven leaders to secure Nigeria’s future, warning that emerging disruptions powered by artificial intelligence demand a fresh leadership approach.

Speaking on Thursday at the Foundation Day lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), the governor emphasised that the nation’s economic and technological advancement hinges on the quality of its leadership and the strength of its educational institutions.

Delivering a lecture titled “Leadership and Organisational Performance: Technology as a Driver,” Aiyedatiwa maintained that while technology continues to evolve rapidly, leadership remains the defining force shaping society’s direction.

He dismissed fears that artificial intelligence could supplant human leadership, stressing that qualities such as wisdom, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence cannot be replicated by machines.

According to him, universities play a critical role beyond awarding degrees, serving as breeding grounds for individuals capable of navigating complex global challenges.

Aiyedatiwa commended FUTA for its consistent production of resilient and globally competitive graduates, urging higher institutions to stay committed to building human capital essential for national development.

“Leadership is a key determinant of organisational success. It shapes vision, mobilises resources, and drives the attainment of strategic goals,” he said.

The governor further stressed that modern leadership must embrace innovation, noting that institutions like FUTA remain strategic platforms for nurturing globally competitive leaders equipped with both technological insight and human understanding.

He added that societies positioned to thrive in the future will be those that deliberately cultivate leaders who understand the intersection of human dynamics and emerging technologies.

In her remarks, FUTA Vice-Chancellor, Adenike Oladiji, described the institution as a forward-looking academic environment that integrates technology with the humanities to address societal challenges.

Oladiji highlighted the indispensable role of technology in the digital age, noting that effective leadership increasingly depends on collaboration between academia and industry.

She also commended the Ondo State Government for its continued support, particularly in infrastructure development and the upgrade of the State Specialist Hospital into a teaching hospital.
