Bayern Edge Real Madrid in Seven-Goal Classic to Book PSG Semi-Final Clash After Dramatic Late Twist

0

Bayern Munich have booked a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final against holders Paris Saint-Germain after surviving a chaotic seven-goal showdown against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena.

The quarter-final second leg exploded into life with five goals in a relentless first-half spectacle, as both sides traded blows in a frantic, end-to-end contest that had fans on edge throughout.

After the break, the tempo dropped into a tense tactical duel, with neither side willing to overcommit as the tie hung in the balance.

Extra time looked inevitable until drama struck late on. Real Madrid substitute Eduardo Camavinga received a second yellow card for time-wasting following a foul on Harry Kane, leaving the visitors down to ten men in the closing minutes.

With just a minute remaining, Luis Díaz delivered the decisive moment. The former Liverpool forward combined neatly with Jamal Musiala before curling a deflected strike into the top corner to seal the victory.

Real Madrid had twice threatened to seize control, with Arda Güler scoring a brace and Kane marking his 50th goal of the season as Bayern responded each time in a gripping back-and-forth battle.

Despite the resilience of the 15-time European champions, Bayern finally broke them down for good, with Michael Olisecurling home a stoppage-time finish to secure a memorable 4-3 win on the night and a 6-4 aggregate triumph.

FIFA to Debut Historic World Cup Final Halftime Show in 2026 — Afrobeats Stars Eye Global Stage

0

FIFA is set to make history at the 2026 World Cup final by introducing a halftime show for the first time ever, marking a major shift in the tournament’s entertainment tradition.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the development, noting that the performance will feature multiple global artists. The show is being curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin alongside the band’s manager Phil Harvey, signaling a strong push for a world-class musical production.

The final match is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at the MetLife Stadium in the United States, which will temporarily adopt the name “New York New Jersey Stadium” for the duration of the tournament. The event will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Organized in partnership with Global Citizen, the halftime show is being positioned as a landmark cultural moment designed to match the scale of football’s biggest global audience. Infantino described it as “a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”

FIFA is also planning a major fan activation in New York’s Times Square during the final weekend, expanding the tournament’s entertainment footprint beyond the stadium.

Although the official lineup has not yet been announced, Nigerian artists are widely expected to be strong contenders. The global rise of Afrobeats continues to reshape mainstream music, increasing the likelihood of African representation on one of sport’s biggest stages.

That expectation is reinforced by recent milestones, including Tems’ standout appearance at the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show, where she performed alongside J Balvin and Doja Cat in a globally televised performance that spotlighted Afrobeats on football’s premier platform.

Omawumi Rejects “Transactional Relationships” Label, Says Modern Dating Only Evolved in Form, Not Intent

Nigerian singer Omawumi has dismissed the growing narrative that modern relationships are more transactional than in the past, insisting instead that only the form of exchange between partners has changed over time.

Speaking on a Pulse podcast, the singer explained that expectations in relationships have always existed, particularly among women, but have evolved alongside changing lifestyles and social trends.

She drew a comparison between earlier forms of courtship and today’s dating culture, noting that what once involved simple gestures like buying ice cream or popcorn has now shifted to more expensive expectations.

“I disagree because we women have had long throat since the beginning of time… but our transactional was different,” she said. “Back then, it was ice cream and popcorn. But now, it’s an iPhone.”

Omawumi argued that the word “transactional” is often misunderstood and that mutual exchange is a natural part of relationships. According to her, effort and reciprocity have always been present in dating dynamics.

She also noted that she consciously matches the energy she receives in relationships, especially when a partner shows affection through gifts or effort.

“If I’m dating a man who gives me presents, I always strive to equal that energy,” she said, adding that encouragement of mutual effort is important when two people are interested in each other.

The singer further addressed perceptions that women only receive in relationships while their contributions are overlooked. She argued that this imbalance is often exaggerated in public discourse.

Omawumi also pointed out that some men tend to pursue what she described as “shiny objects,” sometimes investing heavily in the early stages of attraction.

Ultimately, she identified inconsistency as a major challenge in modern relationships, stressing that effort often declines once initial interest is secured.

“And once you’ve finished obtaining it, you’ll need to cut back on all the effort you were doing earlier… No, you must maintain your energy,” she said.

Sule Backs Wadada for 2027 Nasarawa Governorship Race

0

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has declared Senator Aliyu Wadada as his preferred candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, signaling early political positioning as the race for the state’s top seat begins to take shape.

Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, recently defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the APC. His move is widely seen as part of a strategic effort to strengthen his governorship ambition under the ruling party.

The governor’s endorsement is expected to influence the political landscape within the APC in Nasarawa State, as aspirants begin to align ahead of the party’s primaries.

ADC Crisis Deepens as Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso Camps Clash Over 2027 Presidential Ticket

0

Fresh cracks have widened within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as powerful factions loyal to Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso jostle for control ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

The internal turmoil is unfolding against a backdrop of unresolved leadership disputes and uncertainty surrounding the party’s legal recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The crisis intensified after INEC declined to recognise the current leadership structure of the party, following a Court of Appeal ruling that questioned the emergence of key figures, including former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, into the ADC’s National Working Committee.

With at least three factions now laying claim to the party’s leadership, several state chapters have been unable to conduct congresses, leaving the party’s internal framework in disarray.

Despite the controversy, the ADC went ahead with its national convention in Abuja on Tuesday without INEC monitoring — a move widely viewed by political observers as both legally risky and politically contentious.

At the centre of the unfolding power struggle are three heavyweight opposition figures: Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, all believed to be positioning for the party’s presidential ticket.

Efforts to forge unity have already hit a roadblock. Allies of Atiku are pushing for a joint ticket with Obi, arguing that their 2019 alliance demonstrates a workable partnership. Media personality Dele Momodu publicly endorsed the proposal, insisting it could strengthen the opposition’s chances.

However, Obi’s camp has firmly rejected the idea, insisting the presidency must return to the South in line with zoning principles. Tanko Yunusa, coordinator of the Obedient Movement, warned that handing the ticket to a northern candidate could undermine the party’s prospects in 2027. He argued that once zoned to the South, Obi should emerge as the party’s flagbearer, potentially alongside Kwankwaso.

Tensions have also been heightened by fears among Obi supporters that Atiku’s entrenched political network could give him a decisive advantage in an open primary. This has fueled calls for the party to formally zone the ticket to the South to ensure a level playing field.

Peter Obi has also reiterated his opposition to what he described as “transactional primaries,” vowing not to participate in any process he perceives as monetised or manipulated.

In response, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi has assured members that the party remains committed to a transparent and credible primary process, promising equal treatment for all aspirants.

Yet, with legal uncertainty, factional leadership disputes, and an intensifying battle for the presidential ticket, the ADC’s ambition to present a united opposition front in 2027 appears increasingly fragile.

The contest for the party’s ticket may still be in its early stages, but the fault lines are already unmistakable.

Jega Warns Politicians Against ‘Do-or-Die’ Politics Ahead of Elections

0

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, has called on political actors in Nigeria to abandon desperation and focus on issue-based campaigns as the country prepares for another round of general elections.

Jega made the appeal while delivering a lecture at the 2nd International Conference hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the Federal University Dutse (FUD). Represented by Dr. Basiru Musa Makarfi, he stressed that leadership must be built on integrity, competence, and a clear roadmap for national development.

Speaking on the theme, “Challenges of Nation Building in the 21st Century,” Jega cautioned politicians against prioritizing personal ambition and partisan interests over national unity and democratic stability.

He warned that elections should not be approached as a “do-or-die” affair, but rather as a democratic process for electing leaders with proven character and capacity. According to him, credible leadership remains essential for sustainable governance and national progress.

Jega also challenged Nigerians to play an active role by electing leaders who demonstrate accountability, integrity, and a genuine commitment to public service. He emphasized that leadership is a responsibility that must always serve the people’s interests.

Highlighting the pillars of good governance, he noted that honesty, transparency, respect for the rule of law, and inclusiveness are key to fostering unity and driving national development.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of FUD, Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, represented by the University Librarian, Ahmed Mohammed, praised the keynote speaker and other contributors for their insightful perspectives. He urged Nigerians to embrace unity, patriotism, and collective responsibility as foundations for sustainable growth.

The conference attracted participants from academia, traditional institutions, the security sector, and civil society, who examined major challenges to nation-building such as corruption, weak institutions, insecurity, poor governance, and the effects of globalization.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to national development. Notable recipients included former Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai (rtd); former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba; and former Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, among others.

The Federal Government has set a 12-month timeline to advance the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port project, aiming to ease seaport congestion and boost Nigeria’s trade logistics

Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port: FG Targets 12-Month Timeline to Decongest Seaports

Nigeria’s push to modernise its maritime logistics has gained fresh momentum as the federal government targets a 12-month timeline to advance the proposed Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port.

At a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta, convened by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, government agencies and industry players reviewed and validated consultancy reports expected to shape the project’s rollout—positioning the inland port as a key node in Nigeria’s logistics network.

Representing the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Fatima Sugra Tabi’a Mahmood, described the maritime sector as central to economic growth and global trade competitiveness.

She emphasised that unlocking its full potential requires reforms grounded in data and real industry experience.

According to the minister, the exercise goes beyond routine review.

“not merely a presentation exercise but a genuine collaborative validation process designed to enrich the technical reports with the practical, institutional knowledge of operators within the sector.”

He added that the approach is designed to ensure the project is realistic, implementable, and aligned with existing regulatory frameworks.

“By harmonising the perspectives of all key institutions, we aim to foster a shared understanding of the project’s strategic direction.”

Oyetola said early stakeholder engagement would help identify risks, improve transparency, and build sector-wide ownership—critical factors for execution in Nigeria’s complex maritime landscape.

He confirmed that consultancy work is expected to be completed within 12 months and called for stronger collaboration among agencies and technical partners to meet the deadline.

The minister also acknowledged the Ogun State Government’s role, particularly the provision of land for the project, highlighting growing federal-state collaboration in infrastructure delivery.

At the state level, Ogun reaffirmed its ambition to become a leading logistics and industrial hub, with the inland dry port expected to attract cargo traffic and investments.

Speaking for Governor Dapo Abiodun, Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, said the project aligns with Ogun’s long-term economic vision.

He described the port as a strategic asset that will deepen the state’s integration into national and regional supply chains.

Earlier, Director of Maritime Services, Mr. Meshack Adeola Oyinloye, linked the initiative to national and continental frameworks, including the National Transport Policy, Nigerian Ports Masterplan, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He noted that the inland dry port would ease congestion at seaports while improving trade efficiency.

The meeting drew participation from key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Ogun State Government, and consultants Dewlands International Company Limited—underscoring a coordinated, multi-agency approach to maritime infrastructure development.

The CVR exercise, which commenced last August as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, is scheduled to conclude in August this year.

INEC has urged Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 since the 2023 general elections, as well as those who are yet to register, to take advantage of the ongoing exercise.
