FIFA has suspended Mexico’s soccer coach Juan Carlos Osorio for six games, saying he insulted officials during a game against Portugal.
FIFA said Osorio also displayed an aggressive attitude towards officials in the Confederations Cup third place play-off, which Mexico lost 2:1 on July 2.
In addition to the ban, which is effective immediately, Osorio was warned about his conduct and fined 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,183.50), FIFA said.
Here is FIFA’s full statement:
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Mexico’s national team coach, Juan Carlos Osorio, following the FIFA Confederations Cup match for third place between Portugal and Mexico on 2 July 2017, during which Mr Osorio used insulting words towards the match officials while displaying an aggressive attitude towards them.
After taking into account all circumstances of the case, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that Mr Osorio is regarded as having breached article 49.1 a) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. As a result, and given the gravity of the incident, Mr Osorio is to be suspended for six official matches and has also been sanctioned with a warning and a fine of CHF 5,000.
The decision, which has been duly notified today, comes into force immediately. Therefore, in line with art. 38 par. 2 c) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the sanction shall be served during the Mexican national team’s next official matches, which will take place in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017.
Depending on the stage at which the final match of the Mexican national team takes place in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017, any remaining matches of this six-match suspension shall be served during the national team’s subsequent official matches.
The west end of Ogun State is no doubt in real contention for the 2019 governorship position but things has fallen apart between one of their own Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) and money bag politician from Ijebu, Buruji Kashamu.
The ‘Ogun West Agenda’ which the incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has pledged his support is almost on the lips of all grassroots politicians in the state.
But the breakup between a two time contestant, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Senator Buruji Kashamu may become a stumbling block against the district’s long time agitation in the next political calculation and may also be a huge advantage to the ruling party-APC.
Reports emanating from political circuits revealed “Senator Buruji Kashamu did not only send Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka packing from his political nest but battle ready to forestall the much clamored Ogun West Agenda with Mr. Segun Seriki, his latest anointed candidate from Ijebu, the eastern part of the state.”
Newsheadline247 understands that the Ijebu politico-generalissimo is still struggling hard to retain his grip on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state but may have squelched his ambition of giving a shot at the state’s highest position.
Fresh information has it that “the embattled senator may have thrown weight behind his newest political jewel, Segun Seriki.”
Seriki on the order of Senator Kashamu went to Ota, the stronghold of Ogun West on 29 June, 2017 to declare his ambition, a move which is said to have led to political uproar in the ancient town and consequently led to killing of a young man and several others injured. Further digs also reveal that Seriki’s candidature within the Omo Ilu structure owned by Kasahmu is yet to become “deeply” rooted.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has assured residents that the government would curtail the activities of the notorious cult group known as ‘Badoo’ in the Ikorodu axis of the state.
Ambode, gave the assurance at the commissioning of a rehabilitated fire service station in Epe and also promised to ensure the safe return of students kidnapped some weeks ago.
Ambode said that he did not believe that the Badoo members were spirits, who could disappear.
“I am deeply concerned about the issue of kidnapping in the state and also the recent development that has been happening in Ikorodu about mob action, as well as that of Badoo.
“I just want to assure residents that we are doing everything possible. We don’t run the government on the pages of the newspapers, and that is why you see that we do not make comments in the newspapers,’’ Ambode said.
He, therefore, charged traditional rulers, especially those in Ikorodu, to wake up from their slumber by helping the government to nip in the bud, the rising wave of kidnappings and the menace of Badoo.
Ambode said it had come to the point that traditional rulers in the state must come together and speak to the Baales in Ikorodu to solve the problem of kidnapping.
According to the governor, intelligence reports had it that some of the Baales colluded with kidnappers to kidnap people in remote areas.
“We have intelligence here that some of these things are coming from within and our Kabiyesis and Obas need to do something as quickly as possible to arrest the decadence.
“As far as the Badoo case is concerned, I do not believe that it has anything to do with a disappearing ghost.
“I don’t also believe that the rituals can be taking place, without some people not being behind it.
“So, I challenge all our Kabiyesis, traditional rulers and Baales; we must arrest this situation as quickly as possible,’’ Ambode said.
The governor said the government was wholeheartedly committed to safety of lives and property in the state. (NAN)
Tragedy struck around 8:00pm in Ota after a political gathering involving Ogun State governorship aspirant and a serving member of the Federal House of Representative, hon. Ladi Adebutu.
Report reaching our desk indicates a young man was shot dead via stray bullets from Ladi Adebutu security aide during fracas which erupted when Ladi Adebutu met with different groups of supporters around Okeede in Ota on Wednesday evening.
Eyewitness informed groups from both factions of PDP and APC were involved as the Nigeria Police made instant arrest and began immediate investigation on the matter.
“A state of extreme confusion and disorder started when hon. Ladi Adebutu left the meeting,’’ an eyewitness said
Another eyewitness insisted “Ladi Adebutu who was on his way from Aiyetoro came in after the young man was shot but, rather than be a caring leader, he only peeped from his car window looking at the lifeless body of the boy and several other wounded victims groaning in severe pains and then drove off, it is a show of heartlessness from a supposed leader.”
It was gathered that the standing crowd and passersby along Iganmode road through Okeede where the incident happened rained curses on him for his display of inhumanity as he drove off the scene of the bloody fracas.
newsheadline247 understands the sequential events which led to the untimely death of the young man on a ‘black Wednesday’ in Ota began on 29 June, 2017 when Senator Buruji Kashamu’s newest anointed candidate, Segun Seriki came to Ota to declare his guber ambition. The venue of the declaration took place right opposite Ladi Adebutu controlled PDP secretariat in Ota, Ogun State.
It would be recall that Senator Buruji Kasham parted ways with his once upon a time anointed candidate and 2015 governorship aspirant, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) over irreconcilable political differences.
Information made available stated that supporters of GNI were not happy with Segun Seriki’s coming to Ota to declare his governorship ambition-Reason, he is an Ijebu man and for Buruji to have replaced GNI with Segun Seriki is an outright attempt to squelch the Yewa-Awori agenda of producing a governor in the 2019 general election -It is the only project at hand at the west end of Ogun State.
There were grumblings and bitter complains from supporters of GNI against Segun Seriki, who is an Ijebu man coming to Ota to declare his aspiration of becoming the next governor of Ogun Satate.
“They believed the move was a huge slap and insult to the people of Ogun west.” A source informed.
Further digs enable us to know that reports of the protests against Seriki coming to Ota reached the Ijebu Politico-generalissimo, Senator Buruji Kashamu who immediately ordered the arrest of the GNI supporters alleging them for breach of public peace.
These supporters of GNI were languishing in police custody when Ladi Adebutu’s team took advantage of their helplessness by ensuring their release in one of a crowd pulling cases in an Ota magistrate court.
“Former Ogun State commissioner for Works and Housing, Hon. Waliu Taiwo stands as surety for the boys.” newsheadline247 was told.
Back to what led to‘black Wednesday’s’ mayhem. Privy sources informed that Hon. Ladi Adebutu had a date with the boys who were arrested through the order of Senator Buruji Kashamu.
“The purpose of the meeting was meant to intimate with the new hijacked supporters following assistance from Adebutu’s camp,” our source stated
But Ladi Adebutu who was in Ayetoro for an Ogun West PDP meeting came very late. His supporters waited for hours and while waiting Buruji Kashamu’s group joined them.
“The swelling up of the gathering was uncomfortable and later resulted to street fight on arrival of hon. Ladi Adebutu.
“One of Ladi’s security aide shot sporadically and a stray bullet hit a young man who died instantly.” A source informed.
Our attention has been drawn to statements credited to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the governor of Osun State, at the campaign of his party (APC) held at Oba Laoye Grammar School, Ede on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, to the effect, that he unstatemanly derided Dr. Deji Adeleke and the painful sudden death of indomitable and lovable Senator Isiaka Adeleke.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, should have realized, that to all human beings, death is inevitable, and that in Yoruba custom, no one talks ill of the dead. It is therefore shocking and inhuman, that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was literally dancing on the grave of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, his senior in political arrangement of Nigeria by all description.
This same scenario he played out at his infamous Ogbeni till day break programme only few days after the death and burial of Senator Isiaka Adeleke. Resurfacing a programme he has rested for three (3) years.
What’s more appalling, is Aregbesola outburst, as widely quoted in major newspapers, that Senator Isiaka Adeleke sudden death “has affected the psyche” of Dr. Dejji Adeleke. How one wants to ask? If Aregbesola has a giant, a towering personality and eminent person like late Senator Isiaka Adeleke in his family, and he lost such distinguished personality to the cold hands of death, will he take to the streets and dance merrily?
Dr. Deji Adeleke, since the demise of his loving brother of blessed memory, along with other members of the family, have been peacefully mourning him and conducting themselves in the best of human behaviour, receiving the low and mighty who came to symphatise.
Why should Ogbeni Aregbesola carry politics to this ridiculous end and acting like a tin god, who will never leave the office as governor and this transient world as a human being.
To those of us living, inclusive of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, we don’t know how we will end it up. Senator Isiaka Adeleke died gloriously. The whole world celebrated his death and the universe stands still over his transition.
What is the sin of the Adeleke family in putting one of their own forward to contest the July 8 Osun West Senatorial By-Election, if that is what is giving Ogbeni Aregbesola some concern.
The Adeleke family has come a long way in the socio-economic and political history of Nigeria without any taint or blemish. It produced late Senator Isiaka Adeleke as a governor in 1992, at age of 34, when today so called “political champion” are not heard of or known.
Let Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola know, that in today’s Nigeria, Dr ’Deji Adeleke is enjoying respect and dignity from those who matter for more than four decades. He had come a long way to be where he is and he trudges on.
If Aregbesola is talking of a contentious Certificate of Occupancy, is he the one that provided the billions of naira that put Adeleke University up as “Harvard” of Nigeria? Political envy should not be carried to this unenviable extent, Mr. Aregbesola!
Aregbesola said this in Ede on Wednesday at the campaign of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Osun West Senatorial District by-election holding on Saturday.
The governor’s vituperation was in reaction to allegation that he owed Deji Adeleke money.
But Aregbesola said he did not borrow any money from Deji at anytime, saying it was the Adelekes that had been collecting money from him.
He said, “Deji Adeleke is a business man, he is not a politician but it is like his brother’s death has run him mad.” (O dabi pe iku egbon e ti da lori ru). It is a lie that I borrowed money from Deji,
“It is to the glory of God that they got the Certificate of Occupancy of their university from our government.
Why didn’t those who are their new friends give them C of O of that university? If Deji Adeleke had so much money, why did he beg me to waive the payable tax of his university? Why couldn’t he just pay?
“I am bold enough to say this over and over again, because I have never sought assistance from any member of the Adeleke family, even during the lifetime of Senator Isiaka Adeleke. Nothing of such occurred.
“My relationship with the late Adeleke was cordial and beyond politics because we had known each other even before Osun politics, because our residences were adjacent to each other in Lagos State.”
He said political office was not by inheritance, saying if it was so, Bola Ige family would have been ruling the state.
In a related development, the National Chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu Sherif, on Wednesday stormed Apomu, the headquarters of Isokan Local Government Area to lead the campaign for Chief Ademola Adeleke, who is the standard bearer of the party in the Osun West Senatorial District by-election.
A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, who recently joined hands with the Sheriff faction of the PDP in Osun State, was also one of the prominent leaders of the PDP, who campaigned for Adeleke.
The campaign train of the PDP, after leaving Apomu, headed for Iwo in continuation of the electioneering.
Meanwhile, one of the election observer groups, accredited to monitor the election, Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, has said there may be voter apathy due to the threat being issued by some politicians ahead of the poll.
The Director-General of the CLCA, Dr. Gabriel Nwanbu, said this at a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday.
Enzo Zidane insisted Wednesday that he was a “different player” from his father Zinedine, after being unveiled at La Liga club Deportivo Alaves.
“I don’t think much about that,” the 22-year-old attacking midfielder said when asked about comparisons with Zinedine Zidane, a 1998 World Cup winner feted as one of the finest talents of his generation.
“I’m Enzo, I’m different, a different player,” Zinedine’s eldest son insisted of his father, who now coaches Real Madrid, last season leading the Spanish giants to a second successive Champions League title.
Enzo Zidane signed a three-year deal with Alaves having previously played for Real Madrid’s third division reserve side Castilla of which his father was coach before taking over the reins of Real’s first team.
Last season, Enzo made a scoring debut for Real in the King’s Cup, and has played 78 games for Castilla.
Deportivo Alaves, based in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque country, reached the final of last season’s King’s Cup, where they lost to Barcelona.
Arsenal has agreed a deal to sign France striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a reported club-record $68m, (£52.56m), the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.
The transfer fee is also a new record sale for the Ligue 1 outfit, while Arsenal said the 26-year-old had signed a “long-term contract”.
The player is expected to travel with the tour party to Sydney this weekend and is likely to make his home debut in the Emirates Cup on July 29 or July 30.
“We are very happy to have Alexandre join our group, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said.
“He has shown over a number of years that he can score goals and that he is a very efficient finisher. As well, he has very interesting technical qualities and a strong character.
“So he is a guy who is a great addition for us, and someone who will help us challenge at the top level this season.”
The world is filled with men of unusual loves and even more bizarre odium; some would readily show warmth and affection to foes tirelessly seeking their downfall and not a few men have been known to despise and seek the end of folk that would unquestioningly die for them in the twinkle of an eye. More worrisomely, there are men whose contempt for each other stem from pitiful pandering to pettiness and hideous pride – such men are incapable of joy or any form of cheerfulness unless they hate some other person, nation or creed.
It is uncertain what breed Senate President Bukola Saraki and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi belong but what is infinitely confounding about both men is their bothersome capacity to treat each other with loathing and contempt. It’s exclusive: they do not see eye to eye.
The increasing gulf between Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, would make the Grand Canyon look less wide.
Interestingly, both have been friends and political associates for more than a decade. Apart from belonging to the same All Progressives’ Congress, APC, they have so much in common. Saraki and Amaechi are in their early 50s and are both two term-governors in Kwara and Rivers States respectively.
Amaechi succeeded Saraki as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. Brilliant and non-conforming, they were in the forefront of the revolt that led to the defection of some governors from the People’s Democratic Party, and the Goodluck Jonathan-must-go campaign which they succeeded at.
For some time now, the two political figures have not been seeing eye-to-eye. Though some political watchers argue that the run-in might have arisen from Saraki’s dalliance with the opposition which saw to his election as Senate President, against the party’s wish, other sources say Saraki actually prevented Amaechi from getting the vice presidential slot under Muhammadu Buhari in the run up to the 2015 presidential elections because he is Niger Deltan.
The party did well perhaps to cover this scandal, it seemed. What is not in contention however is the evolution of a deep-seated animosity which the leaders have turned a blind eye to as both are powerful and have the resources for any warfare. Alas, President Buhari that could have intervened has been incapacitated for months. It is left to be seen if the two power brokers would find a middle ground in the days ahead. >>>Source: The Capital NG
NAN>>> The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says no fewer than 43 persons have won the bidding of vehicles in the first 48 hours of the newly launched e-auction platform.
Mr Joseph Attah, the Public Relations Officer told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja that the platform “is active and working’’.
Attah made the clarification following numerous complaints from interested bidders that they could not access the Customs’ auction websites
The Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali, on July 3 in Abuja inaugurated the e-auction platform aimed at giving all Nigerians equal opportunities to partake in bidding for seized vehicles and to increase Customs’ revenue.
“At the first day of the launching, there were technical challenges with the e-auction platform and these challenges have already been resolved.
“Potential bidders can now register smoothly without hitches.
“The first 48 hours expired at 12noon on Wednesday and already 43 persons have won the bidding including a journalist, so you can see this platform is working.
“For now it is only Jaiz bank that is on the platform, other designated banks are having Interswitch issues and they will soon be on board as soon as they ratify the issues.
“I understand that today one bank will soon be on board,’’ he said.
Attah called on potential bidders to be calm and make use of the bank available on the platform for now until other banks could come on board.
“For those trying to registers, they should go to the designated bank area on the platform, click on the Jaiz bank and print out the page from their system and go to the bank to pay.
“This means the person has activated with Jaiz bank and the bank can key you into the bank system to enable you pay the N1, 000 administrative fee, which will be transferred to your e-wallet,’’ he said.
NAN reports that between 4:10 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, the platform was showing “Under Maintenance’’.
The platform also gave an instruction saying: “Dear user, the server is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance or upgrade. Please refresh the page in a few minutes.’’
However, after many attempts to refresh the page by NAN Correspondent, it still showed the same instruction.
