ICPC Links El-Rufai to Multi-Million Dollar Egyptian Properties Amid Corruption Probe

ICPC has linked Nasir el-Rufai to six luxury properties in Egypt worth millions of dollars. The former Kaduna governor denies wrongdoing, calling the probe politically motivated

ICPC Links El-Rufai to Egyptian Properties Worth Millions Amid Corruption Probe

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly uncovered six luxury real estate assets in Egypt linked to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai.

According to sources, the properties — three villas and six apartments — were acquired between 2021 and 2023, during el-Rufai’s tenure as governor. They are located in highbrow areas of New Cairo, including Arabilla Estate, Banafsik Estate, Oriana II, and Cairo Festival City. Villas in these estates are valued between $1 million and $1.3 million, while apartments in Cairo Festival City cost around $500,000 each.

El-Rufai, who has been in ICPC custody since February 18, has consistently denied wrongdoing, insisting he is being persecuted for his political choices. “I don’t need mansions or big houses,” he once declared in a 2023 interview, claiming he owned only one house in Kaduna.

The probe comes after the Kaduna State House of Assembly indicted him in 2024 for alleged diversion of N423 billion in public funds. His troubles have since deepened, with the Department of State Services (DSS) charging him over alleged phone interception involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and the EFCC questioning him upon his return from Cairo in February.

El-Rufai has fought back, suing the ICPC over the raid on his Abuja residence, demanding N1 billion in damages, and accusing the commission of defamation and forgery. His family has also demanded his immediate release, describing his detention as unlawful.

Despite mounting allegations, the former governor insists the investigations are politically motivated, citing his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as “the only surviving opposition party in Nigeria.” Read More

Senator Gbenga Daniel Pushes for Four New TASUED Campuses After Federal Government Takeover

Senator Gbenga Daniel has proposed four new campuses for Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) after Federal Government takeover

Senator Gbenga Daniel Seeks Four New TASUED Campuses After Federal Takeover

Senator Gbenga Daniel, former Ogun State governor and current representative of Ogun East, has unveiled a bold proposal to expand Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) with four new campuses following its takeover by the Federal Government.

Speaking at a midterm assessment in Ijebu North East, Daniel explained that TASUED’s current 151-hectare site in Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, falls far short of the 10,000 hectares typically required for a federal university. To bridge this gap, he has submitted a plan to establish satellite campuses within a 30-kilometre radius of the main site.

The proposed campuses include Skill Acquisition Mini-Campus in Okelugbogun, Ijebu North East, Gateway Petroleum Institute Conversion in Oni, Ogun Waterside, Artificial Intelligence & Innovation Mini-Campus in Illishan/Odogbolu, and Health Sciences Mini-Campus in Ijebu Ode.

Daniel stressed that the initiative would not only expand educational access but also drive economic growth across the region. He highlighted its symbolic significance, noting that Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, traces her ancestral roots to Ijebu North East.

Beyond education, the senator rolled out free medical services and distributed empowerment tools such as sewing machines, motorcycles, grinding machines, deep freezers, and knapsack sprayers to support local businesses.

However, Daniel accused the Ogun State government of hostility toward his federal project facilitation, warning that political disputes could stall development. “Our role as lawmakers is to facilitate federal projects to our constituency. What we need from the state government is cooperation, not unnecessary political disputes,” he said.

The controversy deepened over the halted rehabilitation of Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu GRA. Daniel insisted the road, built during his governorship two decades ago, urgently needs repairs. The state government, through Special Adviser Kayode Akinmade, denied hostility, insisting on proper documentation before projects proceed.

Daniel praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and urged unity among Remo and Ijebu residents to push for the creation of an Ijebu-Remo State from present-day Ogun State. Read More

Wike Dares Turaki Faction to Supreme Court After Winning Nine Appeals in PDP Legal Battle

0

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Taminu Turaki that he and his allies are prepared for a legal showdown at the Supreme Court of Nigeria if they choose to challenge Monday’s court ruling.

Wike issued the warning after his faction recorded a sweeping victory in nine appeals filed by the Turaki-led group at the Court of Appeal Abuja.

The appellate court on Monday dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki faction, which is reportedly backed by Seyi Makinde.

The court also upheld an earlier judgment by the Federal High Court Abuja delivered on October 31, 2025, which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 National Convention.

Reacting to the verdict, Wike said the judgment should serve as an opportunity for reconciliation within the party but warned that further legal action could deepen the crisis.

“Today’s judgment is an opportunity for the PDP to reconcile, but if they decide to go to the Supreme Court, it won’t augur well for the party,” he said.

“If they insist on going to the Supreme Court, we’ll be ready for them. We won all nine appeals against them today in court, and each comes with a ₦2 million cost, totalling ₦18 million against them.”

Appeal Court Upholds Suspension of PDP Officials, Affirms Order Against Party Convention

0

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the suspension of four senior officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

Others affected by the ruling are the party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature.

In its judgment on Monday, the appellate court affirmed the earlier decision of the Federal High Court delivered by James Omotosho, which supported the disciplinary action taken against the officials.

The suspensions were initially announced by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on November 1, 2025.

The Court of Appeal also upheld the October 31, 2025 judgment of the Abuja Federal High Court restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 national convention.

The ruling represents another legal setback for the opposition party amid ongoing leadership disputes within its ranks.

Appeal Court Dismisses PDP’s Challenge, Upholds Order Stopping Ibadan National Convention

0

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging a Federal High Court judgment that restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a unanimous decision delivered on Monday, a three-member panel of the appellate court resolved all four issues raised for determination against the PDP.

The court held that the appeal lacked merit and affirmed the October 31 ruling of the Federal High Court delivered by James Omotosho, which barred INEC from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.

The appellate court rejected the PDP’s argument that the trial court lacked jurisdiction, noting that the matter was not solely an internal affair of the party.

It further ruled that the plaintiffs had the legal standing to institute the suit in defence of their democratic rights. The panel also dismissed the PDP’s claim that it was denied a fair hearing during the trial.

As part of its ruling, the court imposed a cost of N2 million against the PDP, describing the appeal as frivolous.

The Court of Appeal, however, has yet to deliver judgments on the remaining eight appeals related to the case, which include additional rulings and decisions.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have paid glowing tributes to Nigerian women, commending their resilience and contributions to national development as the country joined the global community to mark the International Women’s Day 2026.

In a message posted on his verified X handle, the President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women and girls through policies focused on education, economic empowerment and leadership inclusion.

“Our duty as a government and as a society is to continue creating the conditions where every Nigerian girl can learn, every woman can thrive economically, and every voice can contribute to our national development,” Tinubu said.

The President praised Nigerian women for their courage, resilience and determination across various sectors, noting that they continue to play vital roles in driving the country’s growth and stability.

“Today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate the women of Nigeria, at home and abroad,” he wrote.

Tinubu highlighted the significant roles women play in homes, farms, markets, offices and leadership positions, describing them as pillars of families, communities and the broader national economy.

“They are mothers who nurture, entrepreneurs who build, professionals who lead, and citizens who continue to shape the destiny of our country with resilience and dignity,” he added.

The President also acknowledged the historic contributions of Nigerian women to the nation’s democratic journey and development, noting that many have broken barriers in pursuit of progress.

“Nigeria’s progress has always carried the imprint of women who refused to accept limits placed before them,” he said.

He paid tribute to women who played crucial roles in the country’s struggle for democracy and the millions who contribute daily to sustaining families and strengthening communities.

Tinubu stressed that empowering women and girls remains central to Nigeria’s development agenda, emphasising that inclusive growth cannot be achieved without their full participation.

“When Nigerian women rise, Nigeria rises,” the President declared, urging continued support for initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s leadership.

In her message marking the 2026 International Women’s Day, the First Lady said empowering women should be viewed not as charity but as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future.

Mrs Tinubu said the theme of this year’s celebration—“Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”—highlights the urgent need to ensure equal access to opportunities for women and girls.

“This year’s theme reminds us that empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future,” she said.

According to her, providing women with access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, leadership platforms and justice would strengthen families and communities while fostering national development.

“When we give women access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, leadership platforms, justice and equity, we gain stronger families, more prosperous communities and a more inclusive nation,” she said.

The First Lady joined millions of Nigerians and people around the world in celebrating the achievements and resilience of women and girls.

“Today, on International Women’s Day 2026, I join millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating the strength, courage, tenacity and achievements of women and girls across Nigeria and around the world,” she added.

Dabiri-Erewa Condemns Arrest of 42 Nigerians in Mozambique, Demands Immediate Release

0

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has condemned the arrest of 42 Nigerians in Mozambique, describing the incident as unacceptable and demanding their immediate release.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja and signed by the Commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa expressed concern that the Nigerians were reportedly arrested without any formal charges being filed against them.

According to her, it was disturbing that the operation allegedly targeted Nigerians alone.

“It was disturbing that only Nigerians were reportedly singled out during the operation,” she said.

The NiDCOM boss described the development as both distasteful and worrying, stressing that if any of the individuals had violated the laws of Mozambique, the proper step would be to charge them before a court of competent jurisdiction.

“If any of the individuals had violated Mozambican laws, the appropriate step would be to arraign them before a court rather than detain them without explanation,” she stated.

Dabiri-Erewa further noted that the alleged selective arrest could suggest a xenophobic action against Nigerian citizens living in the southern African country.

She therefore urged Mozambican authorities to either release the detained Nigerians immediately or follow due legal process by formally charging them in court.

According to the statement, the Nigerians were reportedly picked up at a spare parts market where they were allegedly singled out among other traders and individuals present without any clear accusations.

The Commission added that the affected individuals have been confirmed to be legal residents of Mozambique, while the country’s Attorney General was reportedly unaware of any charges filed against them.

NiDCOM also raised concerns about the welfare of the detainees, alleging that some of them were assaulted during the arrest.

“Some of the detained Nigerians were beaten, had their personal belongings confiscated, and several of them are currently ill and in need of medical attention,” the statement claimed.

The Commission reiterated its call for fair treatment and respect for the rights of Nigerians living abroad, urging authorities in Mozambique to ensure justice and uphold international human rights standards.
