Bola Ahmed Tinubu Hails Nasir Idris as He Commissions Multi-Billion Naira Projects in Kebbi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday commended Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris for what he described as remarkable strides in infrastructure and public service delivery across the state.

Tinubu gave the commendation in Birnin Kebbi during the official commissioning of the newly completed State Secretariat Complex, a multi-billion naira project named in his honour.

The president also inaugurated several landmark projects executed under the Idris administration.

“I know what you can do. You are a man of mission and vision. I am always proud of you,” Tinubu said, praising the governor as a focused and people-oriented leader.

Among the projects commissioned were the Birnin Kebbi Central Motor Park, designed to enhance transportation and boost commercial activities in the state capital; the expanded three-lane road along Emir Haruna Road; the Kauran Gwandu College of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences in Ambursa; and the dualised Old Argungu Bypass.

The State Secretariat Complex, initially started in 2012 before being revived and completed by Governor Idris, is seen as a cornerstone in the state’s drive to modernise public administration and improve service efficiency.

Tinubu thanked the people of Kebbi State for their continued support of the government, noting that public cooperation had played a critical role in achieving development goals.

He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would sustain its collaboration with states to advance infrastructure, healthcare, and education nationwide.

The president’s one-day visit also coincided with the closing ceremony of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, where he attended as Special Guest of Honour.

The visit underscored the administration’s emphasis on both infrastructural renewal and cultural heritage as drivers of economic growth and national unity. Read More

The Fund disclosed this in a statement in Abuja by its Director, Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.

Mrs Oluwatuyi said the body noted recent media reports alleging that the institution diverted, misappropriated, or unlawfully withheld its disbursements.

She said there was no verified evidence currently before it, establishing that the university diverted or misapplied any of its funds.

“NELFUND wishes to state clearly that as of this moment, there is no verified evidence before the Fund, establishing that the University of Abuja has diverted, misappropriated, or unlawfully withheld NELFUND disbursements,” she said

She explained that NELFUND operated a structured disbursement and reconciliation framework in line with its statutory mandate.

Mrs Oluwatuyi added that funds were released through established institutional channels, with compliance mechanisms to ensure accountability and transparency.

“Not Even One Call About FX Anymore” — Elumelu Praises Tinubu, CBN Reforms

Tony Elumelu praises President Tinubu’s reforms, says FX scarcity is over, urges faster power debt payments and stronger SME support

Elumelu Hails Tinubu Reforms, Says FX Crisis ‘Effectively Sorted’

Chairman of Heirs Holdings and member of the Presidential Economic Council, Tony Elumelu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as decisive reforms that have ended Nigeria’s era of foreign exchange (FX) scarcity.

Elumelu spoke on Friday after a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, offering a strong vote of confidence in the administration’s monetary and economic policies.

Highlighting changes in the foreign exchange market, Elumelu said improved predictability and stability under the current Central Bank leadership have restored investor confidence.

“We also discussed the country’s monetary policy. What the Central Bank Governor and his team are doing is quite encouraging. We have seen a return to predictability and stability. Speaking not just as a bank chairman, but as an entrepreneur who wears many hats, the ability to predict the direction of the economy is vital for planning,” he said.

“I told someone recently that there was a time when, if I received ten calls regarding banking, seven would be about how to access foreign exchange (FX). Today, if you get ten calls, not even one is about FX. That market is effectively sorted. The Central Bank Governor is doing well, and Mr. President should be commended for creating the space for the Governor and his team to do their work.”

Beyond monetary reforms, Elumelu revealed that discussions also focused on Nigeria’s electricity challenges, particularly the need to accelerate payment of debts owed to power-generating companies.

According to him, access to electricity remains fundamental to economic development.

“Regarding reforms, I haven’t complained about slow implementation. Rather, as we discussed today, I believe that improving access to electricity is critical for economic development. Mr. President realizes this and is committed to doing more, especially in helping to fast-track the payment of power sector debts so that power generators can do more for the country,” he said.

“This is very critical. All of us in the power sector are owed significantly, yet we continue to generate electricity. We want to see these payments made to ensure better provision of power. Access to electricity is essential for the development of our economy.”

Elumelu also disclosed that the meeting examined strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), which he described as the engine of economic growth.

“Today, we spoke extensively about Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs) and how to further support them. Mr. President is very passionate about ‘capacitizing’ entrepreneurs in Nigeria. I am very happy to hear that because they are the engine of economic growth,” he said.

“He spoke about using tax reform to support SMEs and mentioned being super impressed with the Bank of Industry (BOI), even noting the CEO by name and expressing a desire for them to do more.”

Elumelu’s endorsement adds to growing voices within the private sector acknowledging improvements in Nigeria’s foreign exchange framework and broader reform agenda.

As the administration continues to navigate economic restructuring, the coming months are expected to test whether stability in FX and power sector interventions can translate into sustained growth, investment and job creation. Read More

Bello El-Rufai Dismisses APC Defection Rumours, Reveals What Can Make Him Dump Ruling Party

Kaduna North Rep Bello El-Rufai firmly rejects calls to defect from APC to ADC, declaring his mandate belongs to 51,052 voters

Bello El-Rufai Slams Defection Rumours, Gives Reasons That Can Make Him Resign

Kaduna North federal lawmaker Bello El-Rufai has delivered a sharp, no-nonsense response to swirling speculation about a possible exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections, shutting down suggestions to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Reacting directly to a social media user who urged him to dump the APC, Bello made it crystal clear that online pressure holds zero sway over his political future.

He pointed to his decisive 2023 victory as proof of where his true allegiance lies:

“Bello El-Rufai wins Kaduna North Rep seat with 51,052 to defeat the PDP candidate, Samaila who polled 34,808 votes. El-Rufai’s son sets a record by being the first candidate to win all 12 wards in Kaduna North.”

Bello stressed that the mandate belongs solely to those 51,052 constituents—not keyboard warriors.

“The mandate belongs to the 51,052 people who elected me,” he asserted.

He then dropped the only condition under which he would ever consider leaving the APC:

“If Mallam asks me to leave the APC, I’ll resign the seat tonight. I can be non-Partisan. My people adore me,” he said, repeatedly referring to his father, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, as “Mallam.”

In a bold challenge to his critic, Bello upped the stakes:

“I’ll send 10 million to you tonight if you can convince the 51,052 people that have me this mandate. Do you have an app to confirm?”

While pledging unwavering respect for his father, Bello equally affirmed his loyalty to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, whom he called his “boss.”

He recounted a recent symbolic move to underline his position: after attending a public event with his father, he immediately joined a Kaduna APC caucus meeting alongside the Speaker and Governor Sani.

Bello highlighted the doors the APC has opened for him, including high-level engagements with figures like Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Olayemi Cardoso.

On matters of political honour, he drew a firm line:

“I will never publicly go against governor and I will not plan his demise. It is called honour.”

The outspoken lawmaker’s post has effectively quashed—for now—speculation of an imminent defection, while reinforcing his dual loyalty to family legacy and the party that gave him a platform. With 2027 still on the horizon, all eyes remain on whether “Mallam” will ever issue the directive Bello says would end his APC chapter overnight. Read More

Obasanjo Blames 1979 Rice Import Ban Lift for Nigeria’s Endless Dependence: “We Haven’t Recovered Since”

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo blames the 1979 civilian government for lifting his rice import ban, saying it led to kickbacks, policy failure, and Nigeria’s ongoing rice importation crisis

Obasanjo Drops Bombshell: 1979 Rice Import Ban Lift “Set Nigeria Back Decades” – Shares Infamous $5m Kickback Scandal

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has pointed accusing fingers at the civilian administration that succeeded his military government in 1979, blaming their swift decision to lift a rice import ban for locking Nigeria into decades of costly food importation dependence.

Delivering the keynote at the International Memorial Lecture and Leadership Conference in Abuja on Thursday to mark 50 years since the assassination of Gen. Murtala Muhammed, Obasanjo revisited one of his administration’s proudest unfinished achievements.

“By the time we left in July 1979, we wanted to be self-sufficient in rice production. We asked that a report be prepared on what was in the fields. The report showed that we would be self-sufficient that year,” he said.

Armed with that data, his regime banned rice imports just before the October 1979 handover.

“When the civilian administration came in, one of the first things they did was to lift the ban on rice importation so they could allocate import licences to their supporters and political associates,” he added.

Obasanjo narrated a notorious case of alleged abuse that still embarrasses the nation:

“Let me give you an example. One of the barons who obtained a rice import licence from America ordered rice and then asked the suppliers to add $5m to the cost.

“They added the $5m and supplied the rice. He then went back to New York and demanded $2.5m out of the $5m. They refused and gave him only $1 million.

“He reported the matter to the Nigerian embassy and to the Nigerian representative at the UN, who contacted the suppliers. The suppliers said they did not understand what the issue was.

“Eventually, the suppliers explained that the man had asked them to add $5m to the cost and that, without doing so, they would have lost the contract.

“They took the risk and secured the deal. He wanted $2.5m but had taken no risk, so they gave him $1m.

“The ambassador said he felt like digging a hole and sinking into it. That was your country,” he said.

Obasanjo declared the long-term damage irreversible:

“Since the lifting of the rice import ban in 1979, we have not recovered from it. That is why we are still importing rice today.

“These are the kinds of things that go wrong, and then we ask whether Africa has come of age. I wonder.”

He lamented Nigeria’s broader economic regression, noting the country once ranked 37th globally and could have reached the top 10 with sustained progress.

“There was a time when Nigeria ranked 37th among the economies of the world. If we had continued at that rate for 20 years, we would by now have been among the top 10. Today, I do not even know where we stand,” he said.

Citing agriculture as proof of policy inconsistency, Obasanjo revealed how cocoa output tripled under his elected presidency from 150,000 to 450,000 metric tonnes, only to fall back to around 300,000 today.

He stressed the urgent formula for continental progress: “What we need to do is reform and produce. Reform and produce.”

For Africa to truly “come of age,” Obasanjo argued it must sustain 9–10% annual GDP growth—a feat he insisted is achievable.

Reflecting on leadership, he praised Gen. Murtala Muhammed’s greatest legacy while admitting a shared failure:

“The greatest achievement of Murtala, in my view, was that he created a successor who could continue after him. The failure of all leaders after Murtala, including myself, is that we have not been able to create successors who could go on after us.”

The address, tied to Murtala’s iconic “Africa Has Come of Age” speech, served as both a tribute and a stark wake-up call on policy continuity, corruption, and the cost of short-sighted political decisions. Read More

BBNaija’s DeeOne Tells Peter Obi: ‘Sympathy Votes Won’t Win 2027

0

Comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate DeeOne has advised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to reassess his campaign strategy ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that reliance on sympathy votes will not guarantee victory.

In a viral video circulating online, DeeOne criticised Obi’s previous campaign style, arguing that the strategy adopted in the 2023 election would not produce the same momentum in 2027.

The comedian’s remarks come amid the emergence of the City Boy Movement, a political group backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, reportedly drawing support from some former Obi loyalists.

According to DeeOne, Obi must be prepared to invest more resources into his campaign structure, particularly in supporting party agents at polling units.

“You cannot win presidential election with sympathy votes,” DeeOne said. “It may have given him leverage in the last election, but in 2027, it is not going to work.”

He cautioned against underestimating emerging political groups and stressed that presidential contests require visible groundwork and strong logistics.

“Presidential election no be cho cho cho. You have to show workings,” he added.

DeeOne further criticised what he described as inadequate support for Labour Party agents during the 2023 elections, alleging that some lacked basic provisions such as food and water at polling units.

He suggested that if Obi lacks sufficient personal funds to prosecute his ambition, he should openly seek donations from supporters and provide transparent accounting of campaign expenditures.

“If Mr Peter Obi does not have his own money to spend on his ambition, then he should call his followers and ask them to donate and give account of how he spent the money,” he said.

The comedian emphasised that offering constructive criticism does not equate to disloyalty, insisting that honest feedback could strengthen Obi’s prospects in the next electoral cycle.

As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of 2027, DeeOne’s comments add to the growing debate over strategy, funding, and grassroots mobilisation in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape. Read More

House of Reps Summons Emergency Plenary Tuesday to Tackle INEC’s 2027 Election Timetable

Nigeria’s House of Representatives is set for an emergency sitting on Tuesday as lawmakers prepare to scrutinise and respond to the 2027 general election timetable unveiled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last Friday.

In a statement issued by the House Spokesman and Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Akintunde Rotimi, members were formally notified through an internal memo from the Office of the Speaker, emphasising the “constitutional and national significance” of INEC’s announcement.

Rotimi explained that the special plenary will focus on “matters arising from the schedule of activities and timetable released by the commission,” ensuring the House fulfils its oversight role and addresses any legislative implications swiftly.

“The notice of the plenary was conveyed to Members through an internal memorandum from the Office of the Speaker drawing attention to the constitutional and national significance of the development and the need for timely legislative consideration,” he stated.

He stressed that the emergency session demonstrates the House’s determination to act decisively on issues critical to Nigeria’s democracy.

“This emergency sitting reflects the resolve of the House to respond promptly to issues with far-reaching implications for the nation’s democratic process,” Rotimi said, adding that deliberations will centre on “relevant legislative matters connected to the announcement, in line with the constitutional responsibilities of the National Assembly.”

Lawmakers have been strongly urged to attend in full force.

“Honourable members have been strongly advised to prioritise attendance, given the importance of the issues under consideration,” the statement read.

Rotimi reaffirmed the House’s broader commitment:

“The House remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions through responsive and responsible lawmaking, and acting in the best interest of Nigerians on all matters.”

With the 2027 polls now firmly on the national radar, Tuesday’s session is expected to set the tone for how the legislature will engage with INEC’s roadmap in the coming months.

Court Jails Kannywood Actress Six Months for Naira Mutilation

Justice S.M Shuaibu sentences Kannywood actress Saadatu Inuwa to six months in prison or N200,000 fine for Naira mutilation

Kano Court Sentences Actress Saadatu Inuwa to 6 Months for Abusing N1,000 Note

Justice S.M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano has convicted and sentenced Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, to six months imprisonment for the abuse and mutilation of the Naira.

The judgment was delivered on Friday, February 13, 2026, following her arraignment on a one-count charge bordering on tampering with the Nigerian currency, contrary to provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

The charge against the actress reads:

“That you Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa sometime in 2022 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court tampered with Naira currency in the sum of N1000 (One Thousand Naira) note issued by Central Bank of Nigeria by soiling same using your nose and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 21 (1) of the CBN Act. 2007.”

Inuwa pleaded guilty when the charge was read to her.

Following her plea, prosecuting counsel Musa Isah reviewed the facts of the case and urged the court to convict and sentence her accordingly.

The actress appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy, stating that she was a first-time offender and had shown genuine remorse for her actions.

After considering the plea and the facts presented, Justice Shuaibu convicted her and sentenced her to six months imprisonment, with the option of a fine of N200,000.

Section 21(1) of the CBN Act 2007 criminalises the abuse, defacement, spraying, or mutilation of the Naira. The provision has increasingly been enforced in recent years as authorities intensify efforts to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s currency.

The ruling serves as a reminder that violations of currency protection laws carry legal consequences, regardless of status or profession.

Justice S.M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Friday, February 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced a Kannywood actress, Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, (a.k.a Samha) to six months imprisonment for the abuse and mutilation of the Naira.

The actress was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on the mutilation of the Nigerian currency, contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

The charge against the convict reads: “That you Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa sometime in 2022 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court tampered with Naira currency in the sum of N1000 (One Thousand Naira) note issued by Central Bank of Nigeria by soiling same using your nose and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 21 (1) of the CBN Act. 2007

Inuwa pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to her. In view of her plea, prosecuting counsel, Musa Isah reviewed the facts of the case after which he urged the court to convict the defendant and sentence her accordingly.

The actress pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy on her own, stating that she was a first-time offender and had shown genuine remorse for her actions.

Thereafter, Justice Shuaibu convicted and sentenced Inuwa to six (6) months imprisonment with the option of a fine of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) only. Read More
