Court Jails Kannywood Actress Six Months for Naira Mutilation

Justice S.M Shuaibu sentences Kannywood actress Saadatu Inuwa to six months in prison or N200,000 fine for Naira mutilation

Kano Court Sentences Actress Saadatu Inuwa to 6 Months for Abusing N1,000 Note

Justice S.M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano has convicted and sentenced Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, to six months imprisonment for the abuse and mutilation of the Naira.

The judgment was delivered on Friday, February 13, 2026, following her arraignment on a one-count charge bordering on tampering with the Nigerian currency, contrary to provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

The charge against the actress reads:

“That you Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa sometime in 2022 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court tampered with Naira currency in the sum of N1000 (One Thousand Naira) note issued by Central Bank of Nigeria by soiling same using your nose and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 21 (1) of the CBN Act. 2007.”

Inuwa pleaded guilty when the charge was read to her.

Following her plea, prosecuting counsel Musa Isah reviewed the facts of the case and urged the court to convict and sentence her accordingly.

The actress appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy, stating that she was a first-time offender and had shown genuine remorse for her actions.

After considering the plea and the facts presented, Justice Shuaibu convicted her and sentenced her to six months imprisonment, with the option of a fine of N200,000.

Section 21(1) of the CBN Act 2007 criminalises the abuse, defacement, spraying, or mutilation of the Naira. The provision has increasingly been enforced in recent years as authorities intensify efforts to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s currency.

The ruling serves as a reminder that violations of currency protection laws carry legal consequences, regardless of status or profession.

Justice S.M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Friday, February 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced a Kannywood actress, Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, (a.k.a Samha) to six months imprisonment for the abuse and mutilation of the Naira.

The actress was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on the mutilation of the Nigerian currency, contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

Inuwa pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to her. In view of her plea, prosecuting counsel, Musa Isah reviewed the facts of the case after which he urged the court to convict the defendant and sentence her accordingly.

The actress pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy on her own, stating that she was a first-time offender and had shown genuine remorse for her actions.

Thereafter, Justice Shuaibu convicted and sentenced Inuwa to six (6) months imprisonment with the option of a fine of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) only. Read More

Davido Withdraws Custody Case, Says Mention of Late Son Crossed the Line

Afrobeats superstar Davido has formally withdrawn his legal petition seeking joint custody of his daughter, Imade, marking an emotional turn in the high-profile family dispute.

The singer clarified that his court action was never aimed at securing full custody but rather joint custody with his daughter’s mother, Sophia Momodu. However, he announced he would no longer pursue the matter, alleging an ethical breach during proceedings.

In a series of posts shared on his social media platforms, Davido revealed that the case took a distressing turn when his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, was referenced during cross-examination. The singer described the moment as a “lowest blow,” saying it crossed a personal boundary he could not ignore.

“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody,” he wrote, dismissing online narratives framing the withdrawal as a victory for either party. “Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating.. there’s nothing to celebrate.”

Davido further claimed that while he believed he was effectively presenting his case in court, opposing counsel’s decision to reference his deceased child altered the tone of the proceedings. “My deceased son! That’s a no no! Lowest blow!” he added.

The award-winning artiste, whose album Timeless reaffirmed his global influence, emphasized that deeply personal family matters should not be reduced to public spectacle. He insisted that no one truly wins in such disputes when they unfold under public scrutiny.

Despite stepping back from the legal battle, Davido expressed a sense of closure, stating that his daughter would one day understand that he fought to remain an active and present father in her life.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love,” he concluded. Read More

INEC Defends 2027 Election Dates, Pledges Equal Voting Access Amid Ramadan Concerns

INEC Defends 2027 Election Dates, Pledges Equal Voting Access Amid Ramadan Concerns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that it will guarantee fair and equal access to vote in the 2027 general elections, despite growing concerns over the timing of the polls during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The commission had earlier announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections would hold on February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027. Party primaries are fixed between May 22 and June 20, 2026.

However, several stakeholders, particularly within the Muslim community, have raised objections, noting that February 20 falls within Ramadan — a sacred period of fasting, reflection and prayer expected to run from February 7 to March 8, 2027.

Atiku, Bashir Ahmad Raise Concerns

Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, urged INEC to reconsider the date, warning that it clashes with a spiritually significant period for millions of Nigerian Muslims.

In a post on his X handle, Atiku described the proposed election date as falling “right in the middle of the Ramadan period,” stressing that fasting and religious obligations could affect participation.

Similarly, Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, called on the electoral body to review the schedule in the interest of inclusivity.

“If the goal is to promote full and inclusive involvement in the election process, holding such an important national event during Ramadan could create difficulties for many people,” he wrote.

INEC Cites Legal Framework

Responding in a statement, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the timetable was carefully drawn in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections.

He explained that the regulations, in place since 2019, stipulate that presidential and National Assembly elections must hold on the third Saturday of February in a general election year, while governorship and state assembly polls follow two weeks later.

“Based on these existing laws and guidelines, the Commission fixed Saturday, February 20, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and Saturday, March 6, 2027, for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections,” Haruna stated.

Consultations Ongoing

Despite defending its decision, INEC acknowledged concerns raised by stakeholders over the overlap with religious observances and other national events.

The commission said it is consulting with relevant groups and may, if necessary, seek legal adjustments — provided any changes comply strictly with constitutional and statutory provisions.

INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency, fairness and credible elections, assuring the public that updates would be communicated as discussions progress.

The debate over the 2027 election dates highlights the delicate balance between constitutional timelines and religious sensitivities in Nigeria’s plural society. Read More

Governor Dapo Abiodun receives muted response at Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabanjo’s burial in Ijebu-Ode, while Gbenga Daniel draws loud applause

Lucia Onabanjo burial: Crowd Applauds Gbenga Daniel, Greets Abiodun with Silence

Governor Dapo Abiodun received a notably subdued reception on Friday at the burial ceremony of Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabanjo in Ijebu-Ode, as attendees responded to his address with minimal acknowledgment.

The funeral, held in honour of the widow of Ogun State’s first civilian governor, Bisi Onabanjo, drew a cross-section of the state’s political elite.

Among those in attendance were former Governors Olusegun Osoba and Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Gbenga Daniel, former Osun Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, as well as Mrs. Otedola, former First Lady of Lagos State and mother of billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola. Several former deputy governors and senators were also present.

Observers at the ceremony noted a shift in atmosphere when Senator Gbenga Daniel arrived, receiving warm applause from attendees both outside and inside the church premises.

The contrast between the reception accorded Daniel and the more restrained response that greeted Governor Abiodun did not go unnoticed by political watchers in attendance.

While funerals traditionally transcend partisan lines, the reactions at the widely attended event have since sparked conversations about shifting political sentiments in the Ijebu axis — a region considered strategic in Ogun State politics.

The development comes amid growing speculation about Governor Abiodun’s political future as his tenure gradually winds down. In recent weeks, discussions around a possible Senate bid have surfaced in political circles.

Some critics have argued that recent public endorsements linked to the governor reflect the position of political appointees and close associates rather than organic grassroots backing.

Friday’s ceremony, however, brought together political stakeholders across party lines and generations, underscoring the enduring influence of the Onabanjo family in Ogun’s political history.

As of the time of filing this report, the governor’s office had not issued any statement regarding the public reception at the event.

With 2027 political alignments beginning to crystallise, observers say even symbolic public moments such as this could offer subtle insight into voter mood — particularly in the influential Ijebu region. Read More

At Gateway Trade Fair, Dangote Charts Bold Course for Agricultural & Industrial Exports

…OGUNCCIMA applauds Dangote’s Vision 2030 project

The Pan-Africa Conglomerate, Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has outlined an ambitious export-driven growth strategy aimed at positioning Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole, as competitive leaders in agricultural and industrial exports.

This is just as the Ogun State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA) commended the Group’s long-term industrial investments and Vision 2030 agenda.

The Company’s investment plan was made known by the Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations, Hajiya Fatima Aliko-Dangote during the Dangote Special Day at the ongoing 15th Gateway International Trade Fair in Abeokuta, where business leaders and policymakers converged to advance discussions on export competitiveness, industrial expansion, and public–private collaboration.

The Director who was represented at the occasion by Mr. Tunde Mabogunje, Dangote Cement Plc’s Regional Sales Director, Lagos/Ogun, stated that its long-term investments across cement, energy, petrochemicals, fertiliser and foods production are deliberately structured to reposition Nigeria from an import-dependent economy to a net exporter of strategic products.

She explained that the Group’s Vision 2030 is designed to expand industrial capacity, stimulate cross-border investments, deepen regional value chains, and strengthen Nigeria’s competitiveness within Africa and beyond.

Hajiya Fatima Aliko-Dangote said “Our participation at the Gateway Trade Fair this year dovetails with Dangote Vision 2030, our enterprise wide plan to accelerate industrial expansion, spur cross border investments, and reduce import dependence in strategic sectors. This is why as a lead sponsor, Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) is proud to stand with OGUNCCIMA to deepen commerce, strengthen value chains, and open markets for manufacturers, MSEs and consumers across the region.”

According to her, Ogun State remains central to the Group’s industrial footprint noting that Dangote Cement’s 12 million metric tonnes per annum plant in Ibese continues to anchor domestic supply and exports, while construction is ongoing on a six million metric tonnes per annum integrated cement plant in Itori which is expected to further strenghten local supply chain linkages and boost West African export capacity.

She also referred to the Group’s $2.5 billion fertiliser partnership in Ethiopia, designed to produce up to three million metric tonnes per annum of urea. The initiative, she said, reflects a broader continental strategy aimed at enhancing food security and positioning Africa as a stronger agricultural exporter.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments, Engr. Kehinde Akintomide urged local industries, SMEs, and emerging entrepreneurs to draw lessons from the Dangote growth trajectory encouraging them to think boldly, invest patiently, and pursue excellence with discipline, noting that long-term competitiveness requires resilience, strategic planning, and consistent execution.

He commended OGUNCCIMA for sustaining the trade fair platform that connects businesses to markets and stimulates economic activity, urging the Chamber to continue expanding initiatives that attract greater participation across pavilions and sectors.

In his remark earlier, President of OGUNCCIMA, Lion Niyi Oshiyemi described Dangote Day as not just an event but a celebration of enterprise, resilience, and transformational impact on Nigeria’s economy.

He noted that the Dangote Group has remained “a shining example of visionary leadership and industrial commitment,” stressing that its investments have strengthened Nigeria’s manufacturing base, generated employment, and enhanced the country’s standing on the global economic map.

The OGUNCCIMA head said, “Today, we celebrate not only a brand, but a legacy of enterprise, resilience, and transformational impact on Nigeria’s economy and beyond. With it’s big, bold and strategic mission of Vision 2030, the Dangote Group has remained a shining example of what visionary leadership, innovation, and commitment to national development can achieve.”

Lion Oshiyemi added that the Gateway Trade Fair, now in its 15th edition, continues to serve as a critical platform for commerce, collaboration, and investment promotion. “In a rapidly evolving global economy characterised by intense competition and technological advancement, strong partnerships are no longer optional but essential. Dangote’s presence reinforces the importance of sustained public, private collaboration in driving economic diversification and value-chain development,” he stressed. Read More

Muslim Leaders Fault INEC Over 2027 Election Dates, Cite Ramadan Concerns

0

A cross-section of Muslim leaders and organisations across Nigeria have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to schedule the 2027 general elections for February 20 and March 6, dates expected to fall within the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan, a sacred period in Islam marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, is projected to begin in early February and end in March 2027.

Stakeholders who spoke on the development warned that conducting nationwide elections during Ramadan could create challenges for millions of Muslim voters, ad hoc staff and security personnel who would be observing the fast.

They argued that the physical demands of fasting, combined with long hours under the sun at polling units, could discourage voter turnout and participation in election duties.

‘Decision Is Insensitive’ — Ansar-Ud-Deen
National Missioner of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad, described the election dates as insensitive to the Muslim Ummah.

He urged INEC to shift the polls outside Ramadan, noting that election timetables have been adjusted in the past due to security and logistical concerns.

“Elections are national exercises that should encourage the broadest participation. Fixing the polls during Ramadan may disenfranchise or discourage the active engagement of many Muslims,” he said.

Call for Wider Consultation
Similarly, the National Amir (President) of The Companion, Imam Nojeem Jimoh, appealed to INEC to reconsider the dates in the interest of inclusivity and national cohesion.

He recalled that adjustments were made during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, arguing that reviewing the timetable would not be unprecedented.

Jimoh also called for broader consultations with religious and community leaders before finalising election schedules, stressing that greater sensitivity to religious obligations would strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

“We are major stakeholders in mobilising Muslims for civic duties. We should be consulted before decisions affecting millions are taken,” he said.

The development adds a new dimension to debates surrounding the 2027 election timetable, as stakeholders weigh religious considerations against constitutional and administrative timelines.

Cubana Chief Priest Defends Tinubu Endorsement, Slams Tribal Politics

Socialite and nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, has defended his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, questioning what he described as the logic of ethnic loyalty in Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page, the businessman argued that national interest should take precedence over tribal considerations, urging Nigerians to think beyond ethnic affiliations in determining their political choices.

Responding to critics who accused him of betraying his Igbo roots by backing Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest countered with a rhetorical question: “If as an Igbo man supporting Tinubu is a betrayal, what is a Yoruba man supporting Obi?”

He maintained that unity, rather than tribal sentiment, is key to national progress.

“We can only be Nigerians for us to prosper in Nigeria,” he wrote, stressing that aligning with structured leadership would provide long-term benefits.

The socialite praised Tinubu’s political strategy, recalling how the president supported Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, before eventually clinching the presidency after eight years.

“For Tinubu to become president, he motioned to Buhari… and waited for eight years,” he wrote, referencing the now-famous “Emilokan” slogan associated with Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

He further advised supporters to “follow who know road” and align with leaders who possess political structure and experience, arguing that protests and confrontational approaches had not yielded desired results in the past.

Cubana Chief Priest’s remarks follow his earlier post showing Igbo businessmen donating campaign buses to support Tinubu’s re-election effort. He stated that the move was aimed at boosting the president’s popularity in the South-East.

His comments have since sparked fresh debate online about ethnicity, political strategy and the dynamics ahead of the 2027 general election. Read More

INEC Fixes February 20, 2027 for Presidential Poll, March 6 for Governorship Elections

0

Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, unveiled the timetable on Friday during a press conference in Abuja, formally setting the stage for the next general election cycle.

Concerns Over Electoral Act Amendment
The announcement comes amid mounting concerns about delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.

INEC had earlier indicated on February 4 that it had concluded work on the election timetable and schedule of activities, despite uncertainty surrounding the amendment process.

The commission disclosed that the proposed timetable had already been submitted to lawmakers. However, it cautioned that certain activities in the election schedule may be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed.

With the dates now officially fixed, political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders are expected to begin early preparations for what promises to be a closely watched 2027 general election.

OGHA 2027: Olukemi Adeogun Gains Momentum After Rural Wards Advocacy Press Conference

Chief Mrs. Olukemi Adeogun gains APC attention after advocating for rural ward representation for the Ota Constituency 1 Assembly seat in 2027

Olukemi Adeogun Declares ‘Rural Wards’ Turn,’ Emerges Strong Contender for Ota 1 Seat

Chief Mrs. Olukemi Adeogun, Yeyegunwa of Ota Awori Kingdom, has stepped firmly into the 2027 political conversation following a press conference organised by the Rural Wards Frontier Advocacy (RWFA) in Atan, Ota.

The event, held at Ansarudeen Primary School, Atan, is being widely viewed as a strategic moment that has strengthened her profile as a leading aspirant for the Ogun State House of Assembly seat representing Ota Constituency 1.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 13, 2026, by Yeye Media Guru, Adeogun’s media team, and seen by NewsHeadline247, the advocacy engagement was described as a turning point in the push for rural political inclusion.

According to the statement, Adeogun delivered what observers described as a passionate and compelling message centred on equity and representation.

She asserted that “it is the turn of rural wards to be the next Assembly,” a declaration that reportedly resonated strongly with leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) present at the gathering.

Her firm stance on rural inclusion, combined with her readiness to serve, was said to have earned her significant goodwill within party circles.

“As a woman with a vision for Ota Constituency 1, Chief Mrs. Adeogun’s message struck a chord with the gathering,” the statement read.

“Her emphasis on the need for rural wards to take the reins of power and her readiness to serve have positioned her as a strong contender for the APC ticket.”

The statement further indicated that APC leaders and members have taken note of her growing influence and consistent advocacy for grassroots representation.

Observers say Adeogun’s emergence aligns with broader conversations within Ota about political rotation and inclusivity at the state legislative level.

With momentum building and 2027 gradually approaching, her camp believes she has positioned herself as a formidable contender in what is expected to be a competitive race for Ota Constituency 1.

As political alignments continue to evolve, Adeogun’s rural wards agenda appears set to remain a central talking point in Ota’s pre-2027 political landscape. Read More
