Akinboyede Congratulates Solomon Adeola Yayi as Ogun APC Consensus Governorship Candidate

An Ota-born legal practitioner and political ally, Prince Abiodun Akinboyede, has congratulated Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Akinboyede, a barrister at law and a steadfast supporter of the Yayi governorship project, described the development as a significant step toward the realisation of a new Ogun State.

In a statement made available to newsheadline247, Akinboyede emphasised that while Yayi’s emergence is a major milestone, the real work lies ahead.

“The task to victory has just begun. This is the time for all Ogun State indigenes and residents to come together and rally support for Senator Yayi,” he said.

Highlighting his longstanding relationship with the senator, Akinboyede noted that he shares in Yayi’s vision of transforming Ogun into a model state for all.

“I have unwavering confidence in Senator Yayi’s vision and capacity to transform Ogun State into the dream place we all desire. He represents hope, progress, and inclusive development,” he stated.

The Ota prince further described the moment as the beginning of a historic political transformation for the state.

“Ogun State is bound for a historic political journey and transformation under the leadership of Senator Yayi. This is a defining moment for our collective future,” he added.

Akinboyede also applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the APC in Ogun State for what he called a courageous and strategic decision.

“Our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the party leadership deserve commendation for this bold step. Senator Yayi was carefully selected as the best among an array of equally capable aspirants with proven qualities,” he said.

Prince Abiodun Akinboyede further recalled his strategic role in the political rise of Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, noting that he previously served as Secretary of the West 2 West Strategy Team, a platform he said was instrumental in Yayi’s emergence as the representative of Ogun West in the Senate. He described the experience as both instructive and a clear demonstration of what can be achieved through “clear vision, disciplined coordination, and a shared commitment to purpose.”

“Our past success with the West 2 West strategy proves what vision and coordination can achieve,” Akinboyede said.

He added that it is on this foundation that he is renewing his commitment to the Yayi project, pledging to deploy his experience, insight, and dedication toward building the necessary momentum for Yayi’s emergence as governor, saying, “What worked before is still relevant—but we must scale it to match today’s realities.”

Speaking on the road to 2027, Akinboyede expressed strong confidence that the same strategic framework that delivered past success remains relevant. However, he cautioned that the governorship race presents a broader and more complex challenge that would require deeper engagement and wider collaboration across all parts of Ogun State.

He said, “The 2027 task is bigger, more complex, and requires deeper statewide engagement.”

Reaffirming his loyalty, Akinboyede pledged continued support for the APC candidate.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate Senator Yayi and reaffirm my commitment to the tasks ahead as we work together towards victory in 2027,” he concluded.

The endorsement adds to growing momentum behind Yayi’s candidacy, as stakeholders across Ogun State continue to rally support ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

ICPC arraigns former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai on nine charges of fraud and money laundering as court orders detention pending bail ruling

El-Rufai Faces Court Over Fraud, Money Laundering Charges as Judge Orders ICPC Custody

The trial of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, took a dramatic turn on Monday as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) formally arraigned him before the Kaduna State High Court.

The proceedings, held before Honourable Justice Darius Khobo at Court 5, saw El-Rufai docked on a nine-count amended charge bordering on alleged advance fee fraud and money laundering.

The arraignment followed a key legal development, as the ICPC prosecution team, led by Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, successfully amended the initial charge.

The original joint charge involving El-Rufai and co-defendant Amadu Sule was split after Sule failed to appear in court.

According to a statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, Okor Odey, the absence of the second defendant was attributed to a medical condition.

With no objection, the court granted the prosecution’s application, allowing the trial of El-Rufai to proceed independently.

Upon the reading of the nine amended charges—filed under multiple laws including the Corrupt Practices Act 2000 and the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006—El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The prosecution thereafter urged the court to fix a trial date and ensure the defendant’s presence throughout proceedings.

In response, defence counsel informed the court of a pending application and requested bail on liberal terms for the former governor.

After hearing both sides, Justice Khobo adjourned the matter for ruling on the bail application to Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Pending the bail decision, the court ruled that El-Rufai be remanded in the custody of the ICPC.

The case marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive, drawing national attention as legal proceedings against the high-profile former governor begin in earnest.

ADC Convention Kicks Off in Abuja Amid Venue Controversy, Over 3,000 Delegates Gather

0

No fewer than 3,000 delegates have converged on the Rainbow Event Centre for the ongoing national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant gathering of party stakeholders from across the country.

Delegates, adorned in vibrant and diverse attires, arrived from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, reflecting a strong show of unity within the party.

Security was visibly tight at the venue, with personnel conducting detailed screening before granting access. Accreditation of delegates is currently underway under the supervision of the accreditation sub-committee led by Austin Akobundu.

Speaking at the event, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, stated that delegate allocation was structured based on state size to ensure fair and balanced representation during proceedings.

However, Idigo raised concerns over difficulties encountered in securing a suitable venue for the convention, alleging that multiple event centres and private establishments declined to host the party due to external pressure and intimidation.

According to him, attempts to secure prominent venues, including the Eagle Square and the Velodrome at the National Stadium in Abuja, were unsuccessful, with requests either ignored or rejected without explanation.

“We approached several venues, including hotels and event centres, but once they realised it was ADC, they declined, citing fear of possible repercussions,” he said.

He further disclosed that even the Rainbow Event Centre initially considered cancelling the booking following alleged threats but proceeded after the party insisted, having already made payments.

Idigo lamented what he described as a hostile business environment, questioning why private operators could not function freely without fear of intimidation, noting that such situations could lead to financial losses.

The convention is expected to conclude the party’s internal congresses, ratify a new constitution, and lay the groundwork for upcoming primary elections.

Florence Ajimobi Denies Bribery Allegations, Labels Impeachment Plot Claims ‘Malicious Propaganda’

0

Former Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, has firmly denied allegations accusing her of offering bribes to lawmakers in a purported plot to impeach Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued by her media office, Ajimobi described the claims as “entirely false and baseless,” insisting they were fabricated to tarnish her image and mislead the public.

Lawmakers Also Reject Allegations

The denial follows earlier rebuttals by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola and Deputy Speaker Hon. Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who both dismissed any involvement in an alleged impeachment scheme.

The lawmakers also denied receiving financial inducements or participating in any plot aimed at destabilising the state government.

No Meeting, No Impeachment Plot — Ajimobi

Ajimobi further refuted claims that she attended or hosted meetings—whether in Lagos or elsewhere—where plans to influence the Assembly were discussed.

According to the statement, she neither convened nor participated in any gathering intended to discuss impeachment or disrupt governance in Oyo State.

‘Malicious Political Propaganda’

Describing the reports as “malicious political propaganda,” Ajimobi said the allegations were part of a deliberate attempt to discredit her, particularly among the people of Oyo State.

She also distanced herself from the activities of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, stating that the claims were rooted in mischief and “reverse propaganda.”

Commitment to Peace and Possible Legal Action

Reaffirming her commitment to democratic values and stability, Ajimobi maintained that she has never engaged in actions capable of undermining peace in the state.

Her media office urged the public to disregard the allegations, warning that the spread of false information could heighten political tensions. It also indicated that legal action may be pursued if the claims are not withdrawn.

Despite the controversy, Ajimobi remains focused on her humanitarian work and broader societal contributions, undeterred by what she described as “unfounded and mischievous claims.”

Dangote Refinery Powers Historic Shift as Nigeria Emerges Net Petrol Exporter, Earns Fresh Forex

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has recorded a major milestone in Nigeria’s energy history, exporting 44,000 barrels per day (b/d) of gasoline in March 2026, an achievement that has positioned Nigeria as a net exporter of petrol for the first time ever, with a surplus of approximately 3,000 b/d during the month.

The landmark performance marks a decisive turnaround for Africa’s largest oil-producing nation, which for decades relied heavily on imported refined petroleum products. Industry experts say the surge in exports, driven by rising output from the Dangote Refinery, is expected to deliver substantial foreign exchange inflows, easing pressure on Nigeria’s forex market while supporting overall macroeconomic stability.

The March export milestone underscores Nigeria’s accelerating progress toward self-sufficiency in refined petroleum products and strengthens its ambition to become a competitive supplier in the global downstream energy market.

In a significant expansion of its international footprint, the Dangote Refinery also exported gasoline to East Africa for the first time, delivering a 317,000‑barrel cargo to Mozambique. The shipment reflects growing regional demand as East African buyers diversify supply sources away from the Middle East Gulf amid ongoing supply disruptions. A further gasoline cargo from the refinery is scheduled for delivery to Beira, Mozambique, in April.

Supporting data from market intelligence firm Kpler showed that Nigeria’s gasoline imports fell sharply to 41,000 b/d in March, the lowest level ever recorded. At the same time, crude oil supply to the Dangote facility climbed to approximately 565,000 b/d, the second-highest intake since the 650,000 b/d-capacity refinery began operations in late 2023. The figures point to strong processing rates and rising product yields across the complex.

Analysts say Nigeria’s transition from a major gasoline importer to an exporter is poised to reshape regional trade flows and intensify competition in global fuel markets. The development is also expected to add pressure to Europe’s already oversupplied gasoline market as Nigeria increasingly competes with traditional suppliers.

Commenting on the broader economic implications, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, recently credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and energy sector reforms for restoring investor confidence and creating the policy environment necessary for large-scale investments in domestic refining.

With rising output, expanding export markets, and declining imports, the Dangote Refinery’s performance signals a turning point for Nigeria’s energy sector, one that promises stronger forex earnings, improved energy security, and a more influential role for the country in global petroleum product trade.

In a statement made available to newsheadline247, Ojolowo-Ojuko described Yayi’s emergence as a defining moment not only for the APC but for the entire Ogun State political landscape.

Ojolowo-Ojuko, who has been a committed and consistent advocate of the Yayi governorship ambition from its inception, said the development reflects the collective will of party stakeholders.

“This is a well-deserved victory for a man who has demonstrated capacity, loyalty, and an unrelenting commitment to public service. Senator Yayi is not just a candidate, he is the right candidate for this moment in Ogun State,” he said.

Highlighting the historical significance of Yayi’s candidacy, Ojolowo-Ojuko noted that Ogun West stands on the brink of a long-awaited breakthrough.

“For over 50 years since the creation of Ogun State, Ogun West has never produced a governor. Senator Yayi is poised to change that narrative and make history for our people,” he stated.

He further emphasized that Yayi’s candidacy represents equity, fairness, and inclusion in the state’s political structure.

Ojolowo-Ojuko expressed strong confidence in Yayi’s leadership ability, describing him as fully prepared for the responsibilities ahead.

“He is prepared for the job, tested, and trusted. Senator Yayi has the experience, vision, and capacity to build the Ogun State of our dreams—one that works for every indigene and resident,” he added.

APC Locks Down Ogun 2027: Abiodun Unveils Yayi as Consensus Candidate in High-Stakes Power Move

In a decisive political maneuver that could reshape Ogun State’s 2027 governorship landscape, Governor Dapo Abiodun has officially unveiled Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement, delivered during a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting attended by party heavyweights, including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Senator Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, influential grassroots mobilisers, and key political actors from across Ogun State, signals a calculated effort by the APC to close ranks early and avoid internal fractures ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Insiders at the meeting revealed that Adeola’s emergence followed weeks of intense consultations and behind-the-scenes negotiations aimed at preserving party unity and strengthening its electoral machinery.

By rallying around a single candidate, the APC appears determined to sidestep the kind of divisive primary battles that have historically weakened party cohesion.

A seasoned lawmaker with strong political footprints in both Lagos and Ogun States, Adeola brings to the table a blend of legislative experience and grassroots appeal.

His adoption is widely interpreted as a strategic positioning by the party to gain early momentum and outpace potential challengers in what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.

The atmosphere at the meeting was said to be charged with excitement, as party loyalists reportedly welcomed the decision as a unifying breakthrough capable of harmonising competing interests within the state’s complex political structure.

While the endorsement marks a significant milestone, attention is now shifting to the finer details—how the consensus arrangement will be formalised and what steps the party will take to solidify support across all blocs in the months ahead.

With this bold early move, the APC has effectively fired the first major shot in Ogun’s 2027 governorship battle, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest that is already beginning to take shape.
