“Treasury Looters Behind IPOB to Destabilize the Nation”- Lai Mohammed

In another condemnation of the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the federal government has alleged that the separatist group was being sponsored by those who had looted the treasury in order to destabilise the nation.
Making the charge during a press briefing in Lagos yesterday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed however did not substantiate it.
According to him, IPOB was not set up to further the rights of Nigerians of South-eastern origin or any other group.
He said: “Nigerians must understand that IPOB was not set up to fight for the rights of anyone or group, but as a tool to destabilise the nation, divert attention from the efforts of the Muhammadu Buhari administration and obliterate the laudable achievements of the administration.
“IPOB is being sponsored by those I will call the coalition of the politically disgruntled and the treasury looters. They believe that by sponsoring this group to destabilise the country and trigger chaos, they will realise their ambition of escaping justice and then be free to dip their hands into the nation’s treasury again,” Mohammed alleged.
Mohammed noted that IPOB’s activities became heightened with the advent of the Buhari administration and has been unrelenting since then.
He said the fact that the activities of IPOB picked up since Buhari became the president could not have been coincidental.
“Remember that Nnamdi Kanu, who led a protest at the Nigeria House in London against the Boko Haram insurgency and in support of Nigeria’s unity under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, has suddenly metamorphosed into an IPOB monster who would rather set the nation ablaze,” he said.
Mohammed pointed out that IPOB was nothing more than a contraption by those who believe they had lost political power as well as those who had looted Nigeria’s treasury.
“It is a tool in the hands of the corrupt and disgruntled elements to sabotage the Buhari administration. It fights for no one but the corrupt and the disgruntled.
“It seeks to set us apart as a people, exploiting our fault lines. Its modus operandi is to trigger conflagration nationwide through attacks and reprisals,” he stated.
The minister also wondered why IPOB decided to up the ante in its violent campaign immediately it was announced that Nigeria had exited the recession.
He said: “Now, instead of the government being given the chance to consolidate on that achievement, it is being distracted and the airwaves have been polluted with the activities of IPOB.
“The good news of the end of the recession and its fallout are being replaced in the headlines with the IPOB show of shame.”
He disclosed that the government had seen the trend in the past and warned the public about it.
“The starting point was the rise of hate speech, fake news and disinformation. These were used in an attempt to downgrade the achievements of the administration and to hoodwink an unsuspecting public into believing that the administration has not moved the nation forward an inch since assuming office.
“Since 2016, we have been calling attention to the dangers posed by hate speech, fake news and disinformation. Our calls did not gain traction until those behind the campaign sought to overwhelm the nation,” he added.
He described the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu as the master of hate speech, adding: “No one, including the same people whose rights he claimed to be championing, escaped his vitriolic and primitive attacks.”
Pro Biafra protesters
He challenged all his sympathisers to scrutinise what he termed Kanu’s incendiary, divisive and inciting speeches, the “name calling and the derogatory remarks about the nation’s leaders”, and demand to know if such did not constitute hate speech.
“Leaders of thought and commentators who have shown the inclination to accommodate Kanu and his excesses should say if this is what they expect from someone who wants to lead,” he added.
Mohammed observed  that the wounds inflicted on the nation’s psyche by the activities of IPOB would take some time to heal, noting that the past few days had been a trying one for Nigeria as IPOB’s activities reached a crescendo and threatened the unity of the nation.
“A ragtag mob that calls itself IPOB and its gullible supporters felt they could seize a large swathe of the Nigerian territory, set up parallel military and para-military organisations, mount roadblocks and even confront the Nigerian military.
“Their leader openly solicits for weapons and incites hatred and violence,” he added.
Mohammed blamed IPOB for the incident that happened in Abia State last week, saying no nation in the world would fold its arms and allow  people like Kanu to go on the rampage as he had been doing.
He listed some of the atrocities committed by the group to include the formation of the Biafra Secret Service, formation of the Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blockades of public access roads, extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks, and possession and use of weapons such as stones, Molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others, which he alleged were used on a military patrol vehicle on September 10.
According to him, IPOB engaged in a physical confrontation with troops at a checkpoint on September 11, during which they attempted to snatch soldiers’ rifles and carried out an attack on a military checkpoint on September 12.
“No nation, not Nigeria, will allow that to happen unchallenged. The fact that Boko Haram festered because it was not decisively tackled by the immediate past administration meant we should never again give room for any organisation to threaten the corporate existence of our country,” he said.
While welcoming the decision of the South-east governors to proscribed IPOB, Mohammed said the decision should have come earlier.
He also said IPOB had been writing to other countries in its effort to externalise its lies and propaganda.
He assured the international community that the Buhari administration has no agenda to suppress its citizens for whatever reasons.
He added: “Not even the excesses of some people on the social media has forced the government to do anything that will stifle press freedom or freedom of expression.
“The truth is that IPOB is being sponsored to destabilise our nation. It serves no other purpose beyond that,” he said.
The minister further accused IPOB of engaging in a massive harvest of gory videos from the distant past and from other lands to hoodwink the public, and in particular the international community into believing that its members were the victims of state-sponsored violence.
He urged Nigerians and the international community not to jump to any conclusions on the basis of the videos but scrutinise them.
He also appealed to the media to show greater restraint, accusing a section of the media of sensationalising reporting on IPOB issues, especially since the military was deployed in the South-east for its exercise, tagged Operation Python Dance II.
He also expressed gratitude that the crisis had de-escalated, saying since the military has labelled IPOB a terrorist organisation and the South-east governors have proscribed it, it was time to let IPOB go to where it belongs – the dustbin of history.

59 IPOB Members for Prosecution

Even as the minister gave the damning verdict on IPOB activities, the new Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi yesterday confirmed that at least one person – a police officer – was killed in an attack by suspected members of the separatist group in the state.
He also announced that at least 59 suspected members of the now outlawed group were arrested by security personnel last week during the bloody clashes between soldiers and IPOB members, adding that the suspects will be prosecuted for murder, arson and other related crimes.
Ogbizi disclosed this during a press briefing and parade of seven suspected members of IPOB at Ariaria police station in Aba.
He said following the proscription of IPOB by governors in the South-east and its declaration as a terrorist group by Nigerian Army, anybody found with Biafran materials would be arrested and prosecuted.
He said they would be prosecuted under the Anti-terrorism Act to ensure they are properly dealt with.
Re-echoing the pronouncement of the Nigerian Army, Ogbizi stressed that IPOB by its action had shown itself to be a “terrorist group” which must be dealt with.
He said between September 10 and September 14, the Ariaria police station was attacked by suspected members of IPOB who destroyed everything at the station.
According to him, they came with petrol bombs which they used to gain entrance to the station, destroyed property and stole three pump action rifles.
“Even some policemen were seriously injured. In fact, as I am talking to you, one of the injured police officers is dead. Doctors tried in vain to save his life.
“Now we have lost a soul and you know what it takes to train a police officer. You know the vacuum that creates. It takes a minimum of one year to train a police officer,” he said.
Ogbizi said the IPOB members also destroyed the property of lawful citizens, adding that their demonstration was not peaceful.
He also alleged that the group attacked a nearby bank to get money to acquire more weapons.
The police boss said about 30 IPOB members were arrested when they attacked soldiers at Isiala Ngwa in Abia and about 29 were arrested in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said suspected IPOB members also attacked military officers and the residences of the Commissioner of Police and AIG Zone 9 in Umuahia.
Ogbizi said that the army recovered several exhibits including the coat of arms of Biafra from the suspects.
“As I am talking to you, information reaching me shows that they have started gathering at Nnamdi Kanu’s house,” he said.
Ogbizi called on the people to volunteer information on Kanu’s whereabouts and denied rumours that his father was arrested.

IPOB Rejects Terrorist Tag

In defiance, however, IPOB yesterday defiantly rejected the invidious label, saying that the Nigerian Army “has no right or power” to group it alongside other terror groups.
A statement issued by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, said the decision of the military high command to paint the separatist group with that of terrorism was “laughable and a mockery of the army’s professionalism”.
The proscription of IPOB and tagging it as a terror group has drawn sharp criticism from Ohanaeze Ndigbo which rejected it, as well as from some senior lawyers, including Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who stated that both the South-east governors and army lacked the power to ban IPOB.
IPOB insisted that since the inception of its struggle for the restoration of the Republic of Biafra, it had never engaged in criminal or terrorist activities and challenged the federal authorities to make public proof of the allegations and not fabricate lies aimed at demonising the Biafra independence struggle.
The group said it had never taken up arms and has always been a victim of unprovoked attacks by the security agencies who “kill and maim unarmed and innocent civilians who have not been involved in any act of crime or violence since the inception of this struggle for Biafra’s independence championed by IPOB”.
IPOB also faulted the position of the South-east governors for wielding the big stick, saying that “it is very appalling” that the governors should allow themselves to be “teleguided” by the powers that be to clamp down on their people “because they (South-east governors) want re-election in 2019”.

Ikpeazu: Govs Averted Holocaust

But in yet another reaction to the bloody clashes in his state last week, Abia state governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu yesterday justified the action taken by the South-east governors to douse the tension generated by the clashes between the Nigerian Army and members of IPOB.
He also expressed gratitude to God for averting what would have been a bloodbath in the state, following the withdrawal of troops from the streets of Aba and Umuahia.
He said with the action of the state chief executives of the South-east and their Northern counterparts, “what could have been a holocaust has been averted”.
According to him, the lives of over 11 million Igbos scattered across the states in the Northern part of the country could have been jeopardised if the situation had gotten out of control.
Ikpeazu made this known when he visited the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State council, to sympathise with its members, after the invasion of the press centre by troops last Tuesday.
“God has intervened in what could have been the greatest bloodbath in the history of the whole world,” he said, adding that if the face-off had continued, the attendant reprisals would have led to a massive bloodbath.
He regretted that the security situation in Abia had attracted negative attention to the state at a time his administration was putting made-in-Aba products on the global map and concluding plans to establish three industrial parks in the state.
Ikpeazu assured that normalcy had returned to Abia, adding that doomsday prophets had lost the battle.
While he commiserated with journalists over the assault by soldiers, the Abia governor said that though “you didn’t deserve what happened, it is part of the hazards of the profession”.
He also commended the army for demonstrating “rare humility” by apologising for their invasion of NUJ press centre and restoring the damaged items.

Youths Want Kanu’s Father Dethroned

In another fallout of the bloody clashes in Abia State last week, a group, the Umuahia Youth Movement, gave Ikpeazu a 24-hour ultimatum to dethrone Kanu’s father – Israel Kanu, traditional ruler of Isiama Afaraukwu in Umuahia.
In a letter addressed to Ikpeazu and copied to Buhari, the group said failure to dethrone the traditional ruler would make them take the law into their own hands.
The youths blamed the current security situation and shutdown of economic activities in the state on Kanu who “could not call his son to order”.
Details of the letter were disclosed in a statement issued yesterday by Ifeanyi Okwudili, the group’s president.
The letter read: “With tears and sorrow, the Umuahia Youth Movement respectfully write to request the dethronement of Nnamdi Kanu’s father as a traditional ruler of our clan.
“It beats our imagination that a man who calls himself a royal father and an elder could not call his son to order but rather encouraged him in his madness that has plunged Umuahia city to a great crisis today.
“Sir, recall that Umuahia had been the most peaceful capital city in Nigeria to live and do business in, but just because of one man, we are today facing the wrath of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“Our shops, markets, schools, churches and all banks have been shut down. For the past three days, we have been indoors for fear of being attacked by the military just because of one man whose father is our traditional ruler.
“Based on the above, we hereby request he should be dethroned within 24 hours or we will take the law into our hands and dethrone him and even strip him unclad and raze his house.
“We appeal to every well-meaning Nigerian as well to prevail on Governor Ikpeazu to as a matter of urgency dethrone Nnamdi Kanu’s father.”
The group also demanded the continuation of the military exercise (Operation Python Dance II) “as any attempt to withdraw will make the IPOB criminals rob our shops and houses”.
The group assured the governor of its commitment to a united Nigeria and making Abia State great.

Lalong Relaxes Curfew

Meanwhile, following the return of peace to Jos and its environs after the skirmishes last Thursday between Igbo and Hausa traders, the Plateau State governor Mr. Simon Lalong has relaxed the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis to 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
A statement yesterday from the governor’s spokesman, Mr. Samuel Emmanuel Nanle, said: “The governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong, having considered the improvement in the state of security, since the unfortunate incident of Thursday, 14th September, 2017 which necessitated the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew, has with effect from Sunday the 17th September, 2017 approved the relaxation of the curfew from 10 p.m. daily to 6 a.m. of the subsequent day until further notice.”
While appreciating the swift response of security personnel in the quick restoration of peace in the state, the governor also commended the widespread community consultative meetings held by various community and religious leaders after the fracas.

Turkey Denies Supporting IPOB

In a related development, the Turkish government has denied supporting the secessionist agitations in Nigeria and disowned its citizen, Abdülkadir Erkahraman, who has expressed support for the Biafran agitation.
Erkahraman, who identifies himself as the president of the International Nations Commercial Association in Turkey had visited Kanu in his hometown in Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Abia State last July.
He announced the visit on his Facebook page and encouraged “Biafrans” to “rise up and fight a good fight for freedom”, which went viral.
In response to the development, the Embassy of Turkey in Nigeria issued a statement on its website.
The embassy distanced the Turkish government from Erkahraman’s visit to Kanu.
In the statement at the weekend, the embassy said: “Erkahraman is not a Turkish diplomat or an official representative of the Turkish government.
“The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey wishes to inform the Nigerian public about the following: Abdülkadir Erkahraman, a Turkish citizen, has been sharing videos for some time against the Nigerian government and presents himself as a Turkish diplomat.
“Mr. Abdülkadir Erkahraman is neither a diplomat nor a civil servant or an official representative of the government of Turkey.
“The government of Turkey is committed to the territorial integrity and political unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Furthermore, Turkey never supports secessionist activities against the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Source: thisdaylive

It is ‘unconstitutional’ to proscribe IPOB–Saraki

It is ‘unconstitutional’ to proscribe IPOB–Saraki

Nigeria’s Senate President has said the categorisation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian military and its subsequent proscription by the Southeast governors were “unconstitutional and does not follow due process.”

MR Bukola Saraki said until the government follow due process, labelling IPOB as a terrorist organisation would have no “effect” and that National Assembly will carry out a thorough investigation of the crises in the Southeast.

“Our laws make clear provisions for taking such actions and without the due process being followed, such declaration cannot have effect,” Saraki said in a statement on Monday.

“I am sure the President will do the needful by initiating the right process.”

IPOB is demanding an independence for the Igbo people in Nigeria’s southeast. Its push for an independent Biafra became heightened since 2015, especially after the arrest and release of its leader Nnamdi Kanu by the government.

Kanu said his group was non-violent and would only use peaceful means its agitation.

“We have chosen the track of peaceful agitation, non-violence, persuasion, logic, reason, argument,” he told AFP in an interview in May.

“We are going to deploy all of that to make sure we get Biafra.”

But the Nigerian military last week said it categorised IPOB as “terrorist organisation” after analysing the group’s activities in recent weeks which it said were “clandestinely and actively” aimed at “terrorising the general public.”

Nigerian military spokesman Major General John Enenche said such activities included “the formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal roadblocks, militant possession and use of weapons (stones, Molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others) on a military patrol on September 10, 2017.”

However, Saraki insisted that military needed to follow due process and respect human rights even in the face of provocation. This, he said, will go a long way in demonstrating to the world at “large that we are a country that operate by laid down process under every circumstance.”

The Senate President also said the National Assembly will not be biased in its investigations.

“We assure Nigerians that there will be no cover up. We intend to lay the facts bare.” The Guardian NG

Trump Ramps Pressure on Pyongyang; Says North Korea will be ‘destroyed’ if…….

Donald Trump’s administration ramped up the pressure on North Korea on Sunday ahead of a week of high-stakes diplomacy at the United Nations, warning Pyongyang will be “destroyed” if it refuses to end its “reckless” nuclear and ballistic missile drive.

With US officials and their allies scrambling to find ways to contain an increasingly belligerent Pyongyang, the US president will address the UN General Assembly on Tuesday and then confer Thursday with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting.

Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-In spoke by phone Saturday night and pledged “stronger pressure” on Kim Jong-Un’s regime, the South’s presidential office said, adding that the North must be made to realize that “further provocation” would put it on a “path of collapse.”

The Security Council last Monday imposed a new raft of sanctions on North Korea — but their impact depends largely on whether China, Pyongyang’s ally and main economic partner, will fully implement them and on Russia, which is hosting tens of thousands of North Korean workers.

Washington’s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, kept up the rhetorical pressure ahead of the upcoming meetings in New York, asserting that if the North should pose a serious threat to the US or its allies, “North Korea will be destroyed.”

Trump’s earlier warning he would rain “fire and fury” on a recalcitrant North Korea, she said, was “not an empty threat.”

“None of us want war,” Haley added in an interview on CNN. “We wanted to be responsible and go to all diplomatic means to get their attention first. If that doesn’t work, General Mattis” — the US defense secretary — “will take care of it.”

As the US and its allies emphasize the diplomatic track, South Korea is also deploying a state-of-the-art US missile defense system. In their latest call, the White House said Trump and Moon had committed to “take steps to strengthen deterrence and defense capabilities” of South Korea, offering no details of how it might do so.

Analysts say that in the event of hostilities, millions of people in the Seoul area — as well as the 30,000 US troops in South Korea — would be vulnerable to attack by the thousands of artillery pieces the North has positioned near the border, with potentially staggering casualties.

So far, every effort to persuade the North to back away from its fast-developing nuclear and missile programs — including its most powerful nuclear test yet, on September 3 — has proved futile, at times even seeming to prompt new acts of defiance from Pyongyang.

The North’s latest show of resistance came when it launched a long-range missile over Japan on Friday, just four days after the UN Security Council had passed a tough new package of sanctions.

At the request of the United States, the Security Council will hold a ministerial-level meeting Thursday on ways to enforce the latest sanctions, which include an export ban on textiles, freezing work permits to North Korean guest workers and capping oil supplies.

Haley said sanctions had already provided a “punch in the gut” to Pyongyang but that strict enforcement was crucial.

Separately, Trump’s national security advisor, H.R. McMaster, agreed that “the critical thing is going to be to get all countries, every one, to do all they can to enforce those sanctions, to do everything they can, short of a military conflict, to resolve this problem.”

But if diplomacy and economic pressure fail, he added, “We have to prepare all options.”

Pyongyang, an insular country with few outside contacts, says it needs nuclear weapons to protect itself from “hostile” US forces and is determined to build the capacity to deliver a nuclear warhead that could hit the US mainland.

North Korea said Saturday it was bent on nothing less than military “equilibrium” with the United States.

As his administration continued its efforts to rein in the North, Trump himself gave a more unbridled account of his latest diplomatic contacts.

“I spoke with President Moon of South Korea last night. Asked him how Rocket Man is doing. Long gas lines forming in North Korea. Too bad!” Trump tweeted, apparently finding a new nickname for Kim (McMaster confirmed that that was probably Trump’s intention).

Whether there are gas lines is unclear; very few people own cars in North Korea, outside military and government officials. NAN

NNPC GMD: EFCC Never Indict Petroleum Minister Ibe Kachikwu; False Reports Base on Mere Unproven Allegations

Here is the truth…..

The reports about Honourable Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu being involved in some alleged fraud dealings within the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is not true, newsheadline247 exclusively gathered that ‘the scandalous story was based on mere unproven allegations that were placed before the Economic and Financial Fraud Commission (EFCC).’

Newsheadline247 understands the unfounded allegations placed before EFCC were thoroughly investigated and subsequently discarded when they were discovered not to have any link with the minister. Information made available to newsheadline247 through a letter from the Honourable Minister’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome categorically stated that the minister was not removed from NNPC as Group Managing Director on basis of the alleged unproven report as stated in a false story.

“The story is inaccurate and totally without foundation.”

The letter also clearly stated that, “Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, a well respected technocrat, lawyer and energy expert has an unblemished record of ‘high integrity and uncommon performance’ both in his professional career and in his current position as Minister of Petroleum Resources.

“Anyone familiar with the records of Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu’s record of high performance and integrity both in his professional career and his current position can confirm that he cannot be a party to this scurrilous allegations made in those reports.”

The former OPEC and Gas Exporting Countries Forum President who is also the current Chairman of the NNPC Board served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Exxon Mobil Nigeria for 15 years with astonishing track records.

It is well known that Dr Ibe Kachikwu has solid contacts in Global Energy Sphere with contacts to most Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of multinational petroleum corporations and Secretaries of Energy for key national country players for more than 25 years-the multiple positions he has never been found  wanting in integrity, honour and accountability.

Breaking: DHQ Brands IPOB Militant Terrorist Organisation

The Defence Headquarters has branded the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a “militant terrorist organisation’’ and urged parents to dissuade their wards from joining the group.

In a statement in Abuja on Friday, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, the Director, Defence Information, therefore, restated the commitment of the Armed Forces to confront “all security challenges facing the country.’’

Enenche also assured of the protection of lives and property in all parts of the country.

He said that IPOB posed security challenge and had been metamorphosing from one stage to another.

“In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that have been terrorising the general public include: “The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.

“Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others) on a military patrol on Sept. 10, 2017.

Nigerian Army counters Gov. Ikpeazu’s withdrawal statement, says Operation Python Dance II is a must

The Nigerian Army says it will go ahead with its planned military operation in the South-east.

The army, in a statement issued at about 12:42 a.m on Friday, advised Nigerians to disregard the statement by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu which gave the impression that it was withdrawing its troops from the exercise codenamed “Operation Python Dance II.”

“It’s not true that we are withdrawing the troops,” the army spokesperson, Sani Usman, said in the statement.

The Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikpeazu, had said on Thursday that the army from Friday would commence a gradual withdrawal of troops from the streets of Abia.

“This (the governor’s remark) should not be misconstrued as withdrawing of troops earmarked for Exercise EGWU EKE II,” Mr. Usman, a brigadier general, said, adding that “The General Officer Commanding 82 Division has not said such thing.”

Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikpeazu, said the army from Friday would commence a gradual withdrawal of troops from streets of Abia but the Nigerian Army insists ‘Python Dance II’ is a must

The army said the exercise will commence as scheduled and would run till the end of the year.

“Members of the public especially in the areas where the exercise will take place are please enjoined to go about their lawful businesses.

“We wish to also state that we would not allow any individual or group to jeopardise the conduct of the field training exercise through unlawful or criminal activities,” the army said.

The army appealed to Nigerians to support the exercise which it said was part of its constitutional duties.

It promised that the troops “would conduct themselves in the best professional manner, abide by the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct in line with requirements of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” during the exercise.

The movement of several Armoured Personnel Carriers into Umuahia, Abia State, on Sunday caused a violent skirmish between the troops and the supporters of IPOB, the separatist group campaigning for the independent state of Biafra.

The situation has prompted some Nigerians, especially those from the South-east, to condemn the military exercise as being unnecessary, provocative, and capable of leading to a more serious national security crisis.

The effect of the Umuahia incident spread to Aba, still in Abia State, where suspected members of IPOB burnt down a police station and also in Jos, Plateau State, where violence erupted between the Hausas and the Igbo community.

Meanwhile, a former attorney general in Akwa Ibom State, Victor Iyanam, has said that there was nothing wrong or unusual about the military operation in the South-east.

Mr. Iyanam said Thursday on Facebook that the military for a long time now has been a part of the nation’s security process.

“The police could never have been able to do it alone,” he said.

“Why do we pretend about the military presence in this country? How about the joint Military/Police patrols all over the country?

“Odi was levelled by the military, (and) there was applause for whatever reason. Ibrahim Zakzaky in Kaduna and his followers will not forget their encounter with the military in a hurry. Python Dance Phase1 just rounded off in Rivers State and nobody quarreled with that.

“This story of Militarisation is just not credible.

“A decision on the security situation is neither legislative nor judicial. It is the perogative of the President. The hullaballoo on militarisation is diversionary and mischievous. Buhari cannot afford to be a do-nothing President just so that he would be seen as a ‘democrat’,” Mr. Iyanam said. Premium Times

Peter Obi vows to battle Obiano’s re-election with his ‘blood’

Raging Thunder! Peter Obi vows to battle Obiano’s re-election with his ‘blood’

The former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has vowed to battle Governor Willie Obiano with the last drop of his blood in the latter’s re-election bid.

Obi, told stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday that he would fight with the last drop of his blood to stop the re-election of Governor Willie Obiano in the November 18 poll in the state.

Obi, who spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, stated he was disappointed at the profligacy and clueless administration of his successor, Obiano.

He regretted that all he laboured to put in place in the state in his eight years in office were being destroyed by bad governance.

Obi said, “I will fight in this election aggressively. I will fight with the last drop of my blood. I will fight to win this election the way the PDP has not won any election before.”

He asked the stakeholders to mobilise for the victory of the PDP’s candidate in the poll, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, describing Obaze as “a first-class market.”

The former governor pledged to reconcile all aggrieved PDP members in the August 28 primary election of the party.

“I’m the beneficiary of the PDP confusion when I was governor on the platform of APGA. Today, I’m 100 per cent in the PDP. That confusion must end. We must win the November 18 poll; nothing can stop us from doing that. It’s a fight I must win for the PDP.

“I’ll be in Anambra State all through from today (Wednesday), to accomplish this goal. In 2002/2003, I contested against an incumbent governor and defeated him; so there is nothing strange to me in defeating an incumbent governor.

“If all the money I kept for this (Obiano’s) government, both in dollar and naira were properly utilised and our legacies sustained, Anambra will be on top of other states in development by now.”

In his speech, the PDP standard-bearer, Obaze, thanked the stakeholders for their support and assured them of patronages in his government if voted to power.

But reacting on behalf of the incumbent governor, his media aide, Oliver Okpala, described Obi as a deceit.

He wondered how the former governor who three years ago told the people of the state that Obiano possessed the best qualities and credentials to succeed him would come now to vilify his “best choice.”

“Obi cannot speak from both sides of his mouth. In 2013, he introduced Obiano to the people of the state and said he (Obiano) had the best managerial acumen and political sagacity to take over from him.

“Thus, he happily handed over to Obiano and Obiano had proved to the people of the state what Obi said about him by his performance that everybody is testifying to. So, what is Obi saying?

“There is no amount of lies Obi will tell about Obiano that will make the people to change their minds about the November 18 poll; they are all for Obiano,” Okpala stated.       Additional reports from TheCapital

Jumai Alhassan Fires at Mallan Nasir Elrufai: “I will expose your role in chibok girls kidnapping!”

“Elrufai can lie, kill to rise in his political career………”

The embattled Minister of Women Affairs, Jumai Alhassan has threatened to expose Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Elrufai and his role in Chibok girls kidnapping, ponitblanknews reports.

The Minister said she was surprised that a dirty character like Elrufai could even have the gut to comment against her preference for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for 2019 Presidential race.

She said, there are lot of things Nigerians needs to know about the planning and execution of Chibok girl kidnapping because those behind it will be unmasked very soon. The intention was very obvious, to defame and blackmail PDP and Jonathan out of power.

The Minister became angry by the comment credited to Elrufai where he was quoted as saying that Buhari was severely warned not to appoint Amina Alhassan as Minister.

According to pointblanknews, Mallam Elrufai said Amina Alhassan’s leaved Video, an indication that she has never been loyal to President Buhari from day one, noting that her loyalty lies with someone who is not even ready to support the party to success just because the person also want to become a president

In her response, Amina said those who know history well could tell about the treacherous nature of Elrufai who can go to any length to stab anyone just to rise politically, she said Elrufai was a nobody who was as poor as church rat if not for Atiku that brought him to political relevance.

The same Elrufai was among those who plotted against Jonathan by tactically supporting Boko Haram and Kidnapping of Chibok girls, the information is out there where he lied that Jonathan wanted to kill him and other top members of APC by raising a false alarm about sniper list. No sane Nigerians will take Elrufai serious because he is an unrepentant addicted liar.

The same Elrufai who claimed to be loyal to president is sponsoring some bloggers and his errand boys in the media to keep attacking and defaming Buhari, at least Nigerians and our party can see his deliberate action to blackmail the President when he released his memo to the media which was supposed to be a confidential memo to the President in his bid to tarnish and embarrass Baba Buhari.

I am not a coward, Buhari is my President and one of the fathers of my party APC, if I can’t be real with my choice of Atiku, then it would amount to eye service, I am not that kind of person.

Former President Obasanjo through his book “My Watch” gave a valid description of who the midget Elrufai is, he thrives on stabbing the hands that fed him just to rise politically, he can lie and kill so far he will rise in his political career not minding the pain he is inflicting on others, one of such is his supervision of mass killing and hurriedly burying of over 1,000 Shiites killed in Kaduna.

I will personally meet with President Buhari and explain myself to him, I am not afraid of anybody in the party, after all I am a politician, for those who have gone ahead to plant a corruption story about me in the media, you are just wasting your time she added.  Source: Pointblank News

Arik air slams N20bn suit against Nigerian govt., Ethiopian Airlines in an impending legal battle

Arik Air Limited has filled a N20 billion suit against the Federal Government and Ethiopian Airlines over recent claims in the media that they were negotiating the takeover of the airline.

The suit was instituted by the airline at the Federal High Court, Lagos against Ethiopian Airlines, the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Attorney General of the Federation.

A copy of the suit which was filed on Sept.6 by Arik Air’s counsel, Mr Babajide Koku (SAN), Mr Chukwuemeka Nwigwe and Mrs Ezinne Emedom, was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.

In its statement of claim supported by a 20 paragraph affidavit deposed to by Mr Chris Ndulue, a Director with Arik Air, the plaintiff asked the court to restrain the first and second defendants from further negotiations on its takeover.

The plaintiff noted that the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) had taken over the airline on Feb. 8 which was challenged by its management via two suits already pending before the Federal High Court, Lagos.

According to the plaintiff, the suits numbers are FHC/L/CS/827/17 and FHC/L/CS/826/17, adding that the negotiations by the defendants will render the outcome of the suits nurgatory.

“The plaintiff avers that the agreement of the second defendant with the first defendant will be wide ranging and intricately affect every aspect of the plaintiff herein, including but not limited to the day to day running technical as well as financial management which will affect the plaintiff as being the largest domestic and regional airline in Nigeria.

“The plaintiff further avers that the action taken by the first and second defendants will have a negative effect on the country’s image as the plaintiff being the largest airline will be pawned over to another country for management,” it said.

The plaintiff also averred that the negotiations had caused undue hardship and irreparable damage to the Arik Air brand and ongoing investment discussions as well as unbearable distress to the airline’s shareholders and directors.

It, therefore, asked the court to declare the negotiations null and void because the Ministry of Transportation had no power to transfer the management of the airline to Ethiopian Airlines while the suits over the takeover are pending.

The plaintiff also asked the court for an order directing the Attorney General of the Federation to ensure the investigation of Ethiopian Airlines by the appropriate authorities for inducing and interfering in the administration of justice in the pending suits.

It added that if found culpable, the airline should be charged to court for criminal contempt contrary to Section 133 (4) and (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, Cap C17,Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

The plaintiff also asked the court for an order compelling the Inspector General of Police to investigate the actions of the second defendant.

It further asked the court for N20 billion being punitive damages against the first defendant for inducing or partaking in the interference of the rights of the plaintiff and the administration of justice.

NAN reports that the suit is yet to be assigned to any judge and no date has been fixed for hearing. NAN
