People skipping breakfast risk heart attack

People who skip breakfast or eat poorly to start the day are twice as likely to develop hardened arteries, which can lead to deadly heart disease, researchers said Monday.

The study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology uncovered signs of damage to the arteries long before symptoms or disease developed.

Researchers said their findings could offer an important tool in the fight against cardiovascular disease, the world’s top killer, which took 17.7 million lives in 2015, according to the World Health Organization.

“People who regularly skip breakfast likely have an overall unhealthy lifestyle,” said study author Valentin Fuster, director of Mount Sinai Heart and editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

“This study provides evidence that this is one bad habit people can proactively change to reduce their risk for heart disease.”

The report was based on 4,000 middle-aged office workers in Spain. Participants were followed for six years.

About one in four ate a high-energy breakfast, which included 20 percent or more of the day’s calories.

Most people in the study — 70 percent — ate a low-energy breakfast that gave them five to 20 percent of their daily calorie intake.

Three percent said they skipped breakfast altogether or ate very little. This group “tended to have more generally unhealthy eating habits and a higher prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors,” said the report.

People who skipped breakfast also “had the greatest waist circumference, body mass index, blood pressure, blood lipids and fasting glucose levels,” it said.

Researchers used ultrasound technology to scan participants for signs of fatty deposits in the arteries, or early evidence of disease.

They found that people who ate less than five percent of their recommended daily calories at breakfast had, on average, double the amount of fatty buildup in the arteries as people who ate a high-energy breakfast.

This heightened risk of hardened arteries among people who skipped breakfast or ate little to start the day appeared independently of other factors, such as smoking, high cholesterol and physical inactivity.

Previous studies have shown that eating a healthy breakfast is linked to good health, including a lower body weight, healthy diet, and lower risk of problems with cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes.

Skipping breakfast has also previously been shown to raise the risk of coronary artery disease.

According to Prakash Deedwania, professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and author of an accompanying editorial in the journal, the study offers more evidence that skipping breakfast can be harmful to one’s health.

“Although breakfast skippers are generally attempting to lose weight, they often end up eating more and unhealthy foods later in the day. Skipping breakfast can cause hormonal imbalances and alter circadian rhythms,” said Deedwania.

“That breakfast is the most important meal of the day has been proven right in light of this evidence.”

NNPC Internal Crisis: Petroleum Minister, Ibe Kachikwu Exposes Corporation GMD, Baru’s Dirty Deals

It is the lack of integrity that drives a man to adulterate ethics with gluttony and ill will. Ultimately, such sly character corrupts his soul with lust for gold and substitutes intelligence with error and false luster. But when push comes to shove, and the fruits of his iniquity are ripe for harvest, he starts to run from pillar to post in frantic quest for a reprieve he would never get. This somehow illustrates what the GMD of NNPC, Maikanti Baru is going through even as you read.

Like the proverbial politician who promises to build bridges even where there are no rivers, Baru vowed to end the rot in the Nigerian petroleum industry. Among other things, he swore to eradicate the pathetic culture of creating billionaires only among a select cabal, to the detriment of Nigeria’s petro-business and the entire oil sector.

But no sooner did he assume power than he forgot his promises. He was simply carried away. According to his boss, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Baru, like prodigal cattle that strayed from their pen to feast with wolves, he shamelessly engaged in gross acts of dishonour with shady characters in the oil sector.

However, Dr. Ibe Kachiukwu has written to President Muhammadu Buhari to complain about his humiliation in the hands of the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru.

Dr Kachiukwu also informed the President of Dr. Baru’s penchant for sidestepping due process in running the NNPC. The complaints of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources were contained in a memo addressed to President Buhari and obtained by TheCapital.

Dated 30 August and titled “Matters of Insubordination and Lack of Adherence To Due Process Perpetuated by GMD NNPC-Dr. Baru, the memo (HMS/MPR/001/Vol.1/100) opened with a complaint by Dr. Kachiukwu’s complaint to the President about postings within the corporation done without his knowledge.

“Mr President, yesterday, like many other Nigerians, I resumed work confronted by many changes within NNPC. Like many reorganization and re-posting are done since Dr Baru resumed as GMD, I was never given the opportunity before the announcements to discuss these appointments. This is so despite being Minister of State Petroleum and Chairman, NNPC Board,” Dr Kachiukwu wrote.

The Minister of State (Petroleum Resources) also complained that the NNPC Board, which has met monthly since inauguration by the President, was never briefed of the postings and appointments. The Board, he added, has statutory duty to review the appointments. Its members, said Dr Kachiukwu, got to know of the appointments via the social media and NNPC press release.

“At a minimum and like other parastatals supervised by me at the Ministry have continued to do and in compliance with proper governance standards expected of a multinational oil sector organization,” Dr Kachiukwu stated.

He added that he came into the job with a lot of desire to make positive changes and has succeeded in making some of the envisaged transformation. However, he claimed that he would have been more successful, but for the alleged misbehaviour by Dr Baru.

“I have been on a race to stabilize and move the industry to the next phase. Timing is critical. The sector is also in a critical state where only innovative ideas can stop the alarming impact of the fall of oil prices on national income. The innovations that we have developed and started implementing in the downstream, upstream, policy generation and Niger Delta security have enabled the sector to aggressively pursue out of the box ideas of rejuvenating this sector, getting the best yield and increasing our earnings from Oil and Gas. What this means is that parastatals in the Ministry and all CEOs of these parastatals must be aligned with the policy drive of the supervising ministry to allow the sector register the growth that has eluded it for years. To do otherwise or to exempt any of the parastatals would be to emplace a stunted growth in the industry,” complained Dr. Kachiukwu.

In addition to his complaints, the NNPC Board Chairman asked the President to, among other things, save the NNPC and the oil industry from collapse arising from lack of transparency instituted by Dr. Baru. The minister also begged the President to save his office from further humiliation and disrespect by compelling all parastatals under it to submit to oversight mandate and proper supervision, which he was appointed to manage on the President’s behalf. He equally urged President Buhari to instruct Dr. Baru to allow NNPC run properly and report along due process lines to the Board.

Dr. Kachiukwu called on President Buhari to set the right examples by suspending the recently made appointments in the NNPC and encourage joint presentation meetings between heads of parastatals and the Minister of State to him (President) as a way of encouraging better work ethic and ensuring discipline.        Source: The Capital NG

UNCOVERED! ‘Kleptocracy Tour’ in London exposes properties purchased with laundered funds owned by Saraki, Alison-Madueke, others

Properties owned by Bukola Saraki, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and other prominent Nigerians have been featured on “kleptocracy tours” of London.

The tours, organized by anti-corruption activists, highlight properties owned by corrupt foreign politicians.

A recent kleptocracy tour featured on a BBC News program stopped at a mansion owned by Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki.

“Bukola Saraki is a prominent Nigerian politician who earns around £30,000 a year. According to the Panama papers, he also owns this £30 million property through an offshore vehicle,” BBC News reported.

The same tour made its next stop at a property owned by former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, who owns two properties in London totalling around £11 million.

On an Al-Jazeera report of the kleptocracy tour, property owned by a former military head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar was highlighted.

Rachel Davis-Teka of Transparency International UK said there are over 40,000 homes in London that are owned by individuals unknown to London authorities, making it easy for corrupt politicians to hide their loot in the city.

Some of the tours are hosted by Russian anti-corruption activist Roman Borisovich. While his tours had generally featured prominent Russian and Middle Eastern politicians and business leaders, he has recently begun featuring properties owned by Nigerians.

“Our goal is to stop the avalanche of dirty money that is pouring into the real estate in the UK and particularly into central London,” he told Al-Jazeera.

It would be recalled that Mrs Alison-Madueke forfeited multi-million dollar properties to the Nigerian government in August.

Mr Saraki purchased most of the multi-million-pound properties as his family engaged in mindless looting of Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria which eventually collapsed. The Capital

IAR&T director, Ogunmodede, two others jailed 40 years for diversion of N177M

…… N177m spent to bribe House of Rep. Members

The former Director-General of the Institute of Agricultural, Research and Training, Prof Benjamen Ogunmodede and two others were sentenced to 40 years in prison without an option of fine by a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan Tuesday.

They were convicted of mismanaging funds meant for the payment of salaries and execution of projects in the school

Prof Benjamen Ogunmodede has said that he and two other persons convicted alongside him spent N177m to bribe lawmakers and some employees of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The other two convicted persons were the institution’s account staff members, Zacheus Tejumola and Adenekan Clement.

According to Punch, the three individuals were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2011 on 16-count bordering on conspiracy, unlawful conversion, stealing of school subvention among others.

While giving the judgment, Justice Ayo Emmanuel said each of the convicted persons would spend four years for each of the charges they were guilty of, adding, however, that they would spend the jail term concurrently.

Ogunmodede and others were accused of diverting N177m out of a subvention of N600m released by the Federal Government for the school.

The sum (N177m) was said to have been spent without due process.

In their defence, the convicted persons claimed that a huge part of the money was used to bribe members of House of Representatives and some staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance who facilitated the release of the fund for the research institute.

But Justice Emmanuel ruled that Ogunmodede and others were clearly guilty of the charges preferred against them.

He said that bribery and money laundering were illegal activities that had been prohibited in the country and that they were punishable under the law.

The judge said the sentence would serve as deterrence to people in public position who might wish to mismanage public fund.

“We must have it in our mind that the primary reason for sentencing a guilty person is to serve as a deterrence to those with similar criminal tendencies and for rehabilitation of the accused.

“The two reasons are sociological in nature,” he said.

Ogunmodede’s counsel, Tunde Olupona, from the chambers of Rotimi Akeredolu, said the legal team would review the ruling and decide on the next step.

EFCC’s lead counsel, Nkereuwem Anana, said the judgment was an indication that the war against corruption was being won in the country, noting that the judgment would send a message to others who are mismanaging or embezzling public funds that the long arm of the law would one day catch up with them. ‘N7, 000 was my gain for killing Gulder Ultimate Search Winner’ — Suspect

Ismail Adeyemi, the suspected killer of the Gulder Ultimate Search 2006 winner, Hector Jobateh, has said that he was paid N7,000 after killing the reality show winner.

According to Premium Times, the suspect said, “I gave the deceased phone to my younger brother who sold the phone for N7,000 at the Ikeja Computer Village. I gave my brother N2,000 while I pocketed N5,000.”

In his confessional statement, Mr Adeyemi, 49, said his gang was actually contracted to rob the deceased and not to kill him.

According to him, the job of robbing Hector was actually given to one of his members whom he identified as KK. He said the informant told KK that an important person was coming into the country from America with a huge sum of money.

He said, “I met Nonso and KK while working as a labourer in Apapa. All I was told was that a lady was the one who brought the job. On that day, we waited at a filling station very close to the airport. We followed our target the moment we sighted their vehicle.

“When we got to his house, I went upstairs while KK and another member of our gang stayed downstairs.

Hector’s father, on seeing us thought we were policemen because of the way we were dressed. He demanded what we were looking for. I was still upstairs when I heard a gunshot. I rushed downstairs only to notice that Hector’s father had been shot. He had a bullet wound on his shoulder. Hector and his brother rushed towards their father and my members feared they would be disarmed.

The suspect also claimed that KK was the one that fired the shot that killed Hector.

He added, “I grabbed hold of a briefcase and a bag. When we opened the bag, we found only a pair of shoes, boxers and flower. I took his phone.”

Policemen tracked Hector’s stolen phone to the Computer Village.

Mr. Hector was shot dead at his Oko-Oba residence, new Oko-Oba in Agege area of the state on September 4 shortly after he picked a sibling from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

According to a statement signed by police spokesperson in the state, Olarinde Famous-Cole, the suspect who was arrested at Gas line, Ominiyi in Ijoko area of Ogun State confessed to the crime and other numerous crimes while other members of his gang have been arrested.

‘We Have Won Right to Independent State, Form Republic’- Catalonia Leader, Carles Puigdemont

In spite of controversy and violence that surrounded Sunday’s referendum for Catalonia, leader Carles Puigdemont says the Spanish region has won the right to statehood.

He said the door had been opened to a unilateral declaration of independence.

Catalan officials later said 90% of those who voted backed independence in Sunday’s vote. The turnout was 42.3%.

Spain’s constitutional court had declared the poll illegal and hundreds of people were injured as police used force to try to block voting.

Officers seized ballot papers and boxes at polling stations.

“With this day of hope and suffering, the citizens of Catalonia have won the right to an independent state in the form a republic,” Mr Puigdemont said in a televised address flanked by other senior Catalan leaders.

“My government, in the next few days will send the results of today’s vote to the Catalan parliament, where the sovereignty of our people lies, so that it can act in accordance with the law of the referendum.”

He said the European Union could no longer “continue to look the other way”.

In another development, more than 40 trade unions and Catalan associations called a region-wide strike on Tuesday due to “the grave violation of rights and freedoms”.

Earlier, as voting ended, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said Catalans had been fooled into taking part in an illegal vote. He called it a “mockery” of democracy.

Catalonia determined to separate from Spain

“At this hour I can tell you in the strongest terms what you already know and what we have seen throughout this day. There has not been a referendum on self-determination in Catalonia,” he said.

Large crowds of independence supporters gathered in the centre of the regional capital Barcelona on Sunday evening, waving flags and singing the Catalan anthem.

Anti-independence protesters have also held rallies in Barcelona and other Spanish cities.

Breaking! $18.5billion Revenue: Eight Multi-Million Dollar Dubai Assets Traced to Ex-PPMC MD, Haruna Momoh; …….Details of EFCC Revelation

Breaking! $18.5billion Revenue: Eight Multi-Million Dollar Dubai Assets Traced to Ex-PPMC MD, Haruna Momoh; …….Details of EFCC Revelation

Where is $18.5billion earned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration?

This is the puzzle the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is battling to resolve.

EFCC detectives probing the disappearance of the cash have traced eight suspected assets in Dubai to a former Managing Director of the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), Mr. Haruna Momoh. The PPMC is an arm of the NNPC.
The assets may be put under Interim Forfeiture as soon as the verification is completed by a team in Dubai, The Nation learnt.

The former PPMC boss, who is described as “the right hand man” of ex-Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, is expected to clear the air on how the nation incurred $205 million kerosene subsidy under his watch.

The EFCC is in possession of a report by Price Waterhouse Coopers, a forensic audit firm hired by the Federal Government, which indicted PPMC.

But there are conflicting reports on Momoh’s whereabouts.

The EFCC is said to be tracking his movement and assets, especially in the United Arab Emirates and Swiss Cottage, London, St. John’s Wood, London, New York and Lagos.

Eight of the suspected assets have been identified by a team of detectives in Dubai.
On the list of the houses in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the following at First Group Marina Hotels, Al-Seba Street, Plot 394-426, Dubai, AE-AJ United Arab Emirates; Unit 503, one-bedroom Heritage, 5th Floor located at First Central Dubai Media City TECOM, off Sheikh Zayed, TECOM Al- Barsha 3 Dubai; Unit 1910 ES Heritage, 19th Floor located at First Central Dubai Media City TECOM, off Sheikh Zayed, TECOM Al- Barsha 3 Dubai; a Unit 2507 Dubai Sports City; Unit 314 Dubai Sports City; and Unit 1002, TECOM BARS 125616.

Others are Unit 1402, PS 14th Floor located at Metro Central, TECOM, near Internet City Metro Station, Dubai ( UAE); Unit 712, ES 7th Floor located at First Central, off Sheikh Zayeed, TECOM, Al-Barsha 3 Dubai( UAE); Unit 512, 5th floor located at First Group Marina Hotels, Al-Seba Street, Plot 394-426, Dubai AE-AJ UAE.

An EFCC source said: “Preliminary findings by our team showed that the ex-PPMC has a case to answer bordering on allegations of serving as a front for a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, the alleged $205 million kerosene subsidy scam while in charge of the subsidiary of NNPC; and the controversial $18.5b earnings by NNPC which have not been effectively accounted for.

“We have a report of the forensic audit of NNPC and its subsidiaries by Price Waterhouse Coopers which confirmed Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and kerosine subsidy fraud. We need Momoh to clarify some issues.”

The PwC said in its report: “Our examination of the PMS and DPK import verified by PPPRA revealed that some discharges were apparently verified and subsidy advised to NNPC more than once”. The EFCC believes Momoh should interact with its team to say all he knows about the transactions.

The source confirmed that about $18.5b unaccounted earnings of NNPC were being examined.

“Again, the ex-Minister, Momoh and heads of subsidiaries are under probe. The PwC specifically identified $36.05m ‘over-statement’ in PPPRA’s PMS subsidy payment advice to the NNPC. The report recommended that the NNPC and its subsidiary, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, should refund to the Federation Account ‘a minimum of $1.48b’. All these references referred to an audit report initiated by the administration of ex-President Jonathan.

Responding to a question, the top EFCC source added: “Our detectives have succeeded in tracing eight houses to him in Dubai.

“We are collaborating with the relevant agency in Dubai in order to attach the houses under Interim Forfeiture. We are hopeful that the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) will hasten the forfeiture.”

Sections 7 of 28 and 34 of the EFCC (Establishment Act) 2004 and Section 13(1) of the Federal High Court Act, 2004 mandate the agency to seize suspicious assets.

Section 7 says: “The commission has power to (a) cause any investigations to be conducted as to whether any person, corporate body or organization has committed any offence under this Act or other law relating to economic and financial crimes.

“(b) Cause investigations to be conducted into the properties of any person if it appears to the commission that the person’s lifestyle and extent of the properties are not justified by his source of income.”

Sections 28 and 34 of the EFCC (Establishment Act) 2004 and Section 13(1) of the Federal High Court Act, 2004 empower the anti-graft agency to invoke Interim Assets Forfeiture Clause.

“Section 28 of the EFCC Act reads: ‘Where a person is arrested for an offence under this Act, the Commission shall immediately trace and attach all the assets and properties of the person acquired as a result of such economic or financial crime and shall thereafter cause to be obtained an interim attachment order from the Court.’

Section 13 of the Federal High Court Act reads in part: “The Court may grant an injunction or appoint a receiver by an interlocutory order in all cases in which it appears to the Court to be just or convenient so to do.

(2) Any such order may be made either unconditionally or on such terms and conditions as the Court thinks just.”

Germany’s first gay couple kiss in public

0

Two German men have made history by saying “I do” and becoming the first gay couple to marry after decades of struggle. And they sealed their marital vows with a passionate kiss, publicly.

Wedding bells also rang out in Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover and other German cities where local authorities opened their doors on a Sunday, allowing weddings on the day the law comes into effect.

Bodo Mende, 60, and partner Karl Kreile, 59, exchanged their vows at a desk decked out with white flowers and rainbow flags.

Then, they turned to offer a shot of their first embrace as a married couple to the throng of photographers and TV crews from around the world who packed the south Berlin registry office alongside their friends and family.

“I’m unbelievably satisfied, this is extremely symbolic to be recognised as a completely normal couple and no longer to have a second-class marriage,” Kreile said after the two cut a slice of rainbow cake.

Mende and Kreile, longtime gay marriage campaigners who have been together since 1979, wanted to tie the knot as soon as possible — after being among the first to enter a civil partnership back in 2002.

“This is a day we can really call historic,” Angelika Schoettler, mayor of the capital’s Tempelhof-Schoeneberg district, told the pair.

“I hope a great many couples will seal a bond for life in this room, or others like it.”

The dash to exchange vows comes three months after lawmakers voted to give Germany’s roughly 94,000 same-sex couples the right to marry, following a shift in position by Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Germany becomes the 15th European nation to legalise gay marriage.

The Netherlands led the way in 2000, followed piecemeal by other European countries including Spain, Sweden, Britain and France.

Same-sex relationships have become so normalised that polls show around 75 percent of Germans are in favour of gay marriage.

By extending existing law to same-sex pairs, Germany’s gay couples automatically gain the same tax advantages and adoption rights as heterosexual families.

Along with Germany’s Greens party, the gay and lesbian rights organisation LSVD began its battle for equal marriage rights around the year 1990.

But progress was slow and since 2001 gay couples have had to make do with a civil partnership law, broadened over the years to remove more and more gaps between gay and straight couples’ rights.

The final breakthrough came quite suddenly, in the end, sparked by Merkel’s unexpected announcement in June that she would allow her conservative MPs to vote their conscience on the issue.

Merkel said her thinking changed after a “memorable experience” when she met a lesbian couple who lovingly care for eight foster children in her Baltic coast constituency.

Her surprise shift in position — after 12 years of blockade by her Christian Democrats and their Bavarian allies — was seen by some as a cynical ploy to rob her challengers of a popular cause ahead of September’s general election.

The chancellor herself voted against the bill, arguing that the German constitution still defines marriage as “the union of a man and a woman”.

“I still think it was indecent to delay for so many years, and the fact that she voted no,” lawmaker Johannes Kahrs, gay and lesbian affairs commissioner for the Social Democratic Party, told AFP.

June was a memorable month for gay rights in Germany, as MPs also voted to quash the convictions of thousands of men convicted under a Nazi-era law against same-sex relationships which had remained on the statute book until 1994.

Minister congratulates TStv for breaking Pay TV monopoly in Nigeria

New pay Television operator, TStv Africa, has been granted three-year tax relief by the federal government.

The newly inaugurated television was also granted tax free dividends to all investors in the company.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced incentives on Sunday night in Abuja at a dinner to mark the official unveiling of the new company.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports TStv Africa is a wholly owned by Nigerian Pay TV operator with refined offerings of novel Unclassified Pay Per View subscription and complimentary internet services.

Mohammed who performed the official unveiling of the new company and its products said the tax reliefs were in line with the Pioneer Status recently granted
to the Creative Industry by the Government.

The Minister congratulated the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Dr. Bright Echefu and his team for liberalising and breaking the monopoly of Pay TV in the country.

“The important thing about what Echefu has done today is that he has redefined the pay per view television industry and from today, that industry will never remain the same again.

“What he has done is to democratise the media and entertainment industry and make it possible for even a peasant farmer to have access to the best entertainment and news in the world.

“It is a great opportunity for me to be the one to unveil TStv because just like a Nigerian made history by crashing the cost of telephony in Nigeria, I am glad that another Nigerian is now coming forward to crash the cost of Pay TV,” he said.

The Minister commended the courage of the CEO for coming from the Diaspora to invest in his country and for believing in the government’s seriousness about diversifying the economy.

Echefu said that once you subscribe to TStv, you will also get complimentary internet service, enabled Wi-Fi, as well as video calls and video conferencing services.

“It has an array of amazing TV channels with premium entertainment, educative programs that cut across all genres.

Nigerian Army to Storm Ogun with `Operation Crocodile Smile’, Targets Miscreants

The Nigerian Army has concluded plans to launch a new security initiative, tagged “Operation Crocodile Smile” to rid the state and environs of criminals.

The Brigade Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Basil Adoke, said in Abeokuta at a reception organised by the state government as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary.

Adoke, who said that the initiative would commence ” in the next couple of days” across the state and its environs, is targeted at miscreants.

“ We are going to start Operation Crocodile Smile in Ogun and it involves series of actions to step up tempo targeted at miscreants,” Adoke said.

The commander, who allayed fears over the initiative, called on residents to be calm, stressing that some miscreants had been identified and would be flushed out.

‘Though the state is relatively peaceful but we still have some miscreants to deal with, so when you see Crocodile Smile, don’t be scared,” he said.

According to him, the exercise is a replica of Operation Python Dance recently carried out in Abia to tackle crime.

Responding, Gov. Ibikunle Amosun, commended the roles of security operatives in the state since he took over in 2011.

Amosun pledged continued support on any programme to make the state crime-free.

“ I want to appreciate our security agencies and we will continue to support security measures put in place to silence criminals in our state.

“This is because Ogun has grown to become the economic hub of Nigeria and investments can only continue to thrive in an environment of peace and order,’’ he said.

Reflecting on Nigeria at 57, Amosun expressed optimism that the nation would overcome all its challenges, stressing that ” this period is just a phase in our national life.’’

He stressed the need for Nigeria to consider and use its high population as a factor of strength in unity.

Amosun, who described governance as service to the society, expressed optimism that his successor would tread his path of serving the people and would equally record great achievements like him.

He said the model of governance through the selfless service introduced and established by his administration had transformed the entire state and changed the face of leadership in the state.

“When we got to office, we have raised the bar to the delight of the people and I believe that my successor will follow my path of achievements,” he said.

Notable guests at the reception included the first military governor of Ogun, Seidu Balogun, former military administrator of the state, Raji Rasaki, and a former military administrator of Sokoto State, Raji Rasheed.

Others were the Chairman, Ogun Traditional Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo. (NAN)
